Is that 3 or 4 BS for Thornton so far this year?

Pierre cannot play in the field in the 9th anymore and Thornton should not close. Put anybody else in Left and Crain to close.

And now the outs on the bases loom larger.

Buehrle threw 99 pitches. He couldn't have finished up? No, it was more important for Guillen to show confidence in this big goof.

And fuck Juan Pierre. Did he bet on Oakland? He almost knocked Ramirez down just now. What the fuck!

What is Pierre doing out there? He almost fucked that one up too.

Thornton to set up and Crain/Sale/Santos to close.

Looks like he got his last save. I guess it's time for a change? Yes?
Closers do that. They're great for a year and then nothing they blow. There's a trend here, move him out now before there's more games blown.

In need of a closer???? There is a guy on the northside with explosive stuff who is available. He has big game experience and an even bigger arm.

Well, maybe. That's hard to know without being in the middle of it out there. I know it's the outfielder's ball if he wants it, but he has to call it forcefully. It looked to me like Ramirez was waving everyone off.

Ozzie cannot keep trotting Thorton out there anymore. He is a great setup guy but leave the closing to someone else.
Pierre has become Soriano out there in the ninth inning.

If it wasn't for the bullpen, this team would have only 1 loss so far. Wow.

Someone punch Juan Pierre in the ovaries and kick Jesse Crain in the medulla oblongata.

You really gonna blame a 2-1 loss in extras on the bullpen?

Juan Pierre has caught thousands of fly balls in his life. How in the fuck is it that he's whiffed on 2 in the last 3 days?? Thornton has put WAY too many guys on base but it's impossible for him to work out of it if these assholes don't catch the damn ball behind him.

Well Franklin, if you had balls, you could be an uncle instead of an aunt.

i have to laugh at some of the remarks on both the cubs and sox games tonight - in one thread, quade should be canned for letting dempster throw 102 pitches, and in this thread folks are mad that buehrle only threw 99 and wasnt allowed finish up. regardless of who is right or wrong, it shows me that being a big league manager is a no-win situation the majority of the time.

Dempster threw 116 pitches and was shelled in the 7th inning. A good 6 inning outing was ruined by a clueless manager trying to extend a pitcher in his 3rd start when he clearly was spent. Such is reality on the north side. And this guy still has support and people saying "give him time". Wow. Let's wait until we're 10 under .500 on July 1st and then maybe we can think about doing something. Yes, this team with its bloated payroll isn't going anywhere, but can we at least expect our manager to be able to know how to manage a fucking pitching staff!??

Only when they're at the Shrine

If the Cubs staff hadn't given up any runs this season, the Cubs would be undefeated.

Ozzie did the right thing in relieving Mark Buehrle after 8 shutout innings vs. the A's last night. Two things to consider. First, Buehrle has thrown a lot of innings over the years with the White Sox and he's not getting any younger. Second, Bud Selig's Major League Baseball has become a lot more specialized. There are few pitchers in MLB who can throw wire-to-wire complete games anymore.

Matt Thornton hasn't exactly had many opportunities to save a ballgame like last night's vs. Oakland. Yeah, he's now got 3 blown saves after allowing an unearned run to score in the 9th inning, but Juan Pierre's dropped flyball shouldn't happen! If the Sox are in a save situation tonight, I'd give Thornton another chance. If he continues to struggle for another 2-3 weeks, then Ozzie should make a change in the 9th. Then again, other than Jesse Crain, who can Ozzie rely on? Chris Sale? Sergio Santos? It's not a deep bullpen, guys...

I disagree, SHARKY. Taking Buehrle out at 99 pitches rather than 110 pitches isn't going to keep him strong in August and September. What will keep him strong is giving him days off early in the season and Ozzie elected NOT to do that when he decided to pitch Buehrle in the 5th game of the season rather than use Phil Humber. Ozzie quickly needs to figure out how best to use this pitching staff and stop making bad decisions that costs the team wins.

Phil Humber starts the Angels' series Friday night, Keyser. Unfortunately, Ozzie's stuck between a rock and a hard place in regards to his bullpen, which hasn't been all that good so far in the first week to 10 games.

Buerhle could have thrown 112-120 pitches last night and cruised. There are times when he has thrown 70 pitches thru 4 or 5 innings and he is really laboring. Those outings, along with lack of days off is what will really wear him down thru the year.

SHARK, for the most part Crain, Sale, and Santos have been ok. Thornton has been awful.
