This post will be Exhibit A in the case to strip the University of Montana of its accreditation.

Back to the beer sales at college events for a minute...I attended the NCAA men's basketball regional semifinals at AllState Arena several years ago (the year Illinois went to the championship game) and alcohol was not served anywhere, be it by vendors or at concession stands. Several years earlier, my friend attended the Big Ten tournament at the UC and he said that beer was not sold there either. My understanding is that as long as it is an NCAA sanctioned event, alcohol cannot be served or distributed at any venue.

they can serve booze if its a regular season game not on a college campus.

for tourneys, no beer. but a regular season depaul game at the allstate arena, bottoms up.

Chip, the NCAA makes that demand of any venue, regardless of location, hosting a tournament it is running. Schools can get away with it at certain locations because they are technically "independent contractors" who meet certain rules to qualify as NCAA sanctioned. The NCAA can't forbid venues outside the school's power to sell alcohol, but it can do so on college campuses.
