Toronto just shed the horrible Veron Wells contract and have money to burn. Fielder would fit perfectly in the middle of their lineup and they will easliy go over 3 years to make that happen.

The risk to an NL team is that he will be too fat and inflexible to bend down and field a ground ball or pick a throw out of the dirt. It would be different if he has soft hands but he doesn't. He's a bad first baseman at 27 and will be absolutely brutal at 30+.

Remember though, he is retiring if he doesnt get more than 3 years! Per DB

Please put forth any specific case where this guy would ever accept a 3 year deal. Whoever did that would have fat ass laughing in their face. The retiring bit was a joke, but nobody would be stupid enough to even make that offer.

The Brewers locking up Ryan Braun tells me Fielder is going to leave. He's about to turn 27, and enter some prime hitting years. He's looking for Texiera money. Then again, so am I. It doesn't mean either of us are going to get it.

He'll probably get a nine year deal, around twenty per year. I'm really torn here. This dude is pushing three bills now. If he gets that contract, does he end up at three fitty by 29? He smells of some really bad paper.

Your thoughts?

Nine year deal?

what?

I didn't say I would give it to him. As mentioned here, it only takes one dummy for Boras to drive the price. He's 27. My own personal opinion is pretty clear. Once he has money, he's going to balloon and not be worth a seven year deal. Jayson freaking Werth got a seven year deal at 31. Granted, that may go down as the worst paper ever.

Yes RPB, I could see him getting a bad nine year deal from someone. I just hope it isn't the Cubs.

P.S. I haven't laughed at the Jayson Werth deal for a while. Bahahahahaha!!!!!

Probably when IMU transferred some focus of his terrible thoughts from NBA to MLB

I doubt anyone is getting a nine year deal

8 is crazy.

The ten year deals of the steroid era are gone. The number is going down. I think 6 is the max now

What was the longest deal in the last few years? Has anyone gone 8 since Soriano?

Well the Yankees operate under a different system than most but thats still ridiculous IMO

Being the Yankees getting stuck with a few bad years isnt a big deal

Gonzalez just signed for 6. He's more valualbe than Fielder to me.

Agreed on all counts. However, as mentioned in other threads, the Cubs, Dodgers/Mets (potentially), and a few others will have money. It won't have to be Boston or NYY.
