Ok, all this "Which Position is Easiest to Play" nonsense aside...
you really, really DO NOT WANT Dunn playing 1st base. I'm telling you that's just a god awful idea.
He will hurt this team with his D.
Check out all his negatives on his fielding statistics, dude costs a ton of runs.

Do you know that Fielder isn't really that bad in the field?
He plays a decent 1st base.
Don't let his size fool you (although it seems to have already) he's actually a decent athelete.

prince is a much better athlete than he looks..but he is by no means a good 1st baseman. and i would still want him hear on a 5 year deal for 100 million because of his bat..put up with his glove and no range for his 40 hr's and 120 rbi

Lets agree you were mistaken and moving to first base has been commonplace in MLB for a long time.

The Astros tried Carlos Lee at first base then decided it was better to hide him in left field. The Giants did the same with Pat Burrell.

Manny Ramirez was a left fielder. Nuff said.

No not really.
They tend to DH or leave baseball if they can't play baseball anymore.

Are you kidding?

How many guys have gone from a different positiion to first base?

George Brett
Lance Berkman
Albert PUjols
Ernie Banks

Of the 800 some odd players that play each year, you needed one from the 60's and one from the 80's to make your point?

Anyway, as a Cub fan and having seen some damn impressive 1st basemen over the last 20 years I can't imagine the horror I'd feel having Dunn there trying to scoop anything from the dirt, shorthops or liners. Anything in the dirt gets by him. Anything smoked down the line is going to RF. He'd kill the Sox in the field. I'd MUCH rather see him in Left.

I don't think you're right. A team individually might be able to hide a player at first, assuming that they have an excellent infield otherwise, but Dunn being one of the worst defenders in the LEAGUE has no business playing any defensive position, particularly 1st base.

That's the thing. A guy like Mark Grace isn't as impressive as you think. Dunn would scoop plenty of balls out of the dirt if he played first everyday, although I'm not advocated that for the Sox since they don't have to do it. First base is an offensive position. If your choice is Dunn or Fielder vs. Grace, Joyner or J.T. Snow, you go with Dunn or Fielder every time.

You know, there was NOTHING smartassed about my reply. I said no not really, old broke down players tend to retire or DH when they can't play in the field. You're normally not so sensitive. Take it easy there dude.

we all agree dunn is no good at any position, and he has never started off this poorly. maybe he hits better if he is in the field ..only one way to know for sure..like i said big frank said for years he was a much better hitter when he was playing the field

Are you actually trying to claim dude that more players get moved to 1st base than DH or retirement "When a player is old and cant play his position anymore"?

I don't say it never happens but it certainly isn't as common.
Paul Konerko was not "old and can't play his position" when he moved to first.

Of course playing Dunn at first isnt the answer

The answer is to wait. good dolphin correctly pointed out that dunn is a slow starter.

He will destroy Comiskular in July

ideally you want gg players at every position..that is unrealistic.. but 1st base is and always will be the position to play when you are old and cant run or have no arm..unless you get to to an american league team then it is the dh.

We'll see about that. It's possible. July is his best month by a fair margin. But I'm gonna disagree that he's a "slow starter."
Here's why:
Adam Dunn career splits:
BA/OBP/SLG
April .259/.409/.545
May .246/.374/.548
June .249/.369/.526
July .286/.404/.572
August .234/.370/.502
Sept-Oct .222/.351/.420

No youre changing it.

I said nothing about DH's

When a player cant play his postion anymore, he is moved to first.

Paulie came up as a third baseman
Morales was an outfielder
Texiera played third.

I guess I should have omitted the word old. But thats usually the condition that causes guys to not be able to play their position anymore.

The fact is, players have been moved to first due to their defensive deficiencies at their position since the at least the 50's and its still commonplace today.

I think that has more to do with speed than leather skills. Way too slow to play outfield.

That might be the answer, a poor fielder should play Left, unless his distrubingly slow, then move him to first.

I said nothing about DH's in my post. In fact I specifically cut and pasted your sentence about moving to first.
And like I said, those guys all played first most of their careers. Check it out.

Although you support my position, that's an awful example.
Cubs had a power hitting Gold Glover at first during his tenure with the Cubs.
