I don't know about your situation but for most people having your company pay for your cell phone is one of the worst "benefits" your company can give you. $20 a week so they can call you whenever they want.

Oh, you have to check emails after hours on it? You also have to respond to some I assume and may even have to take some sort of other action. That's worth $22.50(edited for your old cell phone bill) a week in compensation!

As I said, it's almost always a bad deal for you. They don't do it to be nice.

That's a really good point. It's a great way to seem like a great boss, AND keep the employee in their pocket 24/7. Just pay me an extra hundo a month.

Yes, because the concept of having a work cell phone is something that none of us could ever imagine going through. When I think of things that no one here would know anything about, it's "being President, playing professional sports, and having your work phone compensated by your company".

Yeah, I've got a company phone too. I wouldn't dream of making it my primary phone. The information the company can get from that phone about you in unsettling at best. I don't need my company knowing things about me that are ultimately in my smartphone.
If they pay any portion of the bill then they have access to everything.

You should seriously consider just taking whatever they give you and keeping a serperate phone for anything remotely personal. Trust me on this. I work in telecom. I used to manage the cellular contracts we had with nextel.

The worst thing that can happen to most workers is being given a cell phone or a laptop or (although you rarely see them) a pager because now your company, for the low low rate of about $20, owns your free time. You can't say "I didn't get the email/text/vm".

Oh, and we fired a guy once (name of Blaine) for calling in sick for two days but his GPS said he was at Cubs/Sox games. Fired another guy because he was in a bar instead of at a jobsite.

These are just thoughts frmo a guy who has been in the workforce for about as long as you've been alive.
