What the hell?

No timetable for Roy Oswalt's return
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/stor ... BHeadlines
Right-hander Roy Oswalt has left the Philadelphia Phillies for personal reasons, the team announced Wednesday, saying there is no expected date for his return.

Oswalt threw three ineffective innings in a loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night and was long gone from the Philadelphia locker room when the game ended.

After the game, manager Charlie Manuel said Oswalt said nothing about being injured. Still, Manuel said, his ace right-hander "wasn't right."

Oswalt (3-1) allowed five runs on six hits with no strikeouts and one walk. He threw 57 pitches, 36 strikes.

"His stuff wasn't good," Manuel said. "His stuff wasn't crisp and his velocity was down. I figured there was no sense in leaving him out there."

Manuel said Oswalt didn't say anything about an injury. Still, the manager said he was a "little concerned."

"We will see what happens," Manuel said. "He wasn't right."......

I think his 'dozer needs a lubejob, if you catch my drift. Maybe he's pulling a Greinke on the fine fine city of Philadelphia?

Believe he talked about retiring at the end of the last contract he signed.

Kind of a weird dude.

Could see him not coming back

i don't get it, you call wife and see if things are ok..no? things are fucked up? then wife take kids, go to airport and come stay in a hotel in philly or rent a house. even if cell towers are down im sure he has close relatives/friends who check things out. if house is damaged you call a contractor. no reason he should have to leave the team for anything over a day or 2

 Come on now Frank. If this were a Cub doing this, I could easily see you saying the exact same thing.

"a day or 2"

Hardly. If nobody was hurt and he was gone like 8-10 days that's one thing. Nothing wrong with leaving for a series to make sure everything is alright.

Hell, Lou Piniella left for 3/4 of a goddamn season!

Frank Costanza - August 8, 2010: "Did I hear this right? He is leaving the team (yet again) to take care of his ailing mother? I mean don't get me wrong, I understand that family comes first but how old is she-- 90? What could Lou possibly do for her at this point?"

That's gold, Jerry, gold!

When Oswalt makes a habit of this like Lou did, then you guys have a case.

Frank said "Nothing wrong with leaving for a series to make sure everything is alright".
The quote from 2010 said "He is leaving the team (yet again) to take care of his ailing mother?"

The point was that he was going again. Did Frank pick on Lou for the first dying mom (she's not quite dead yet!) absence?

I don't believe I said anything.

And this is a totally different situation. It was clear that Lou quit on the Cubs last year and his mother's healthy just might have been an excuse to leave for a bit....or for the whole season as others have pointed out. Plus, I starting piling on Lou the second time this happened.

Now, if everybody is OK and Oswalt is gone for a week or something, then that's a problem. It sucks to have a home destroyed, but this guy is far better off than the hundreds of other people who have had their homes destroyed. If somebody in his family got hurt, understandable to be gone more than just a few games.

A few more losses and maybe Quade might want to check on Lou's mother.
