The Royals purchased the contract of 1B Eric Hosmer from Triple-A Omaha.

Hosmer was the 3rd overall pick out of high school in the 2008 draft and is the first in a wave of talent to make it to the bigs for the Royals. The promising first base prospect has been on an absolute tear at Triple-A, sporting a .439/.525/.582 line. Hosmer will replace Kila Ka'aihue at first base.

They have so much ridiculous talent peculating in the minors. It'd be nice if they could start spending some cash and keeping the talent there. I like seeing smaller market teams succeed.

Royals payroll is, what, $35 mil?

If you added together Cleveland's and KC's payrolls, you'd still not match any of the payrolls of the Twins/Tigers/White Sox.

KC also has another 1B/DH type killing it in AAA this season, Clint Robinson:

Robinson could be good trade bait for them to shore up pitching.

Moustakas started off slow this season, he's starting to come around at the plate. Dunno if his glove is good enough for an MLB 3B tho.

Couple of pitchers they have, Mike Montgomery and Danny Duffy, should also be up later in the season. Duffy has a 0.90 WHIP and 2.08 ERA so far this season.

KC fans are real excited about this move as they view it as the organization feeling they are going to hang around in this division race all year long.

I heard the same thing in 2003 when they were pretty good the first half of the year.

They need to prove it now.

2003 AL Central final standings:

Minnesota 90 72 -
Chicago 86 76 4
Kansas City 83 79
Cleveland 68 94
Detroit 43 119

7 games out and KC skidded across the finish line, losing their last 3 games after being eliminated from post-season contention.

Not bad.

So when do the Yankees call him up to their squad?

The Royals plan to call up prospect Danny Duffy for a spot start Wednesday against the Rangers.

Duffy is the second in a wave of Royals prospects to make it to the big leagues. The 22 year old lefty is 27-14 2.59 ERA in the minors. In 344 innings he has 402 K's and 110 BB's.

They say it's a spot start but if he pitches well it will be difficult to send him back down.

Royals purchased the contract of 3B Mike Moustakas from Triple-A Omaha.

Moustakas, 22, is one of the top all-around prospects in the sport and was batting .287/.347/.498 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI in 55 games this season at the Triple-A level.

Moustakis is the 3rd Royals prospect to be called up this year.

I picked up Hosmer in fantasy and I'm probably gonna do with same with this kid. Hosmer has been pretty good for me, and I need all the offensive help I can get for my squad.
