this has been one of the most hilarious and, somehow, also one of the most tragic hours in score history. larry needs to find a hobby during the baseball season.

The show didn't have much direction, and I'm surprised the Score would pay for 3 hosts in the evening time, but I found the the show to be ok....

i think it has to do with something someone else said on this here board, about the station trying to figure out how to fill its night-time rotation now that "chicago nfl weekly doug buffone bears" is no longer relevant. the way it was put is that it's up for grabs between last call & paruch, but i guess larry's in the mix, though i find him to be unbearable (no pun intended) when he's not reporting on the bears.

?? He's "unbearable" when he is reporting on Da Bears. Natch.

I fell asleep with the radio on and woke up to the 3-man booth. I don't remember much of what I heard. I like Brian Paruch, though. I don't like Laurence Holmes. "The Me Show"? Dumb.

Laurence needs to take a course in direction, because when he gets on the air, its all over the road time.

For a guy who's had plenty of opportunity to sharpen his radio skills, Holmes really hasn't improved much as a broadcaster. He's basically the same host he was this time last year, and he seems to be content with his stagnation. I see no effort, energy or creativity in his shows, just a guy who likes to keep running the same one or two plays from the B&B radio playbook. Even though Goof and drinky seem to be holding one another back at this point, they've still improved a lot over the past year and continue to do so. And Paruch is also way better than when he started. Holmes is clearly a third-stringer at this point.

Holmes' ego has gotten outta control ever since he's gotten the Bears beat gig. He thinks just because the likes of Desmond Clark and a few other Bears agree to come on his show, that he's the be-all end-all. I for one would like to hear more of Bloomberg; everytime I've heard him I've never wanted to turn the dial.

And yet he always gets to sit in for Terry. Who gets this one?

Just don't tell Lawrence to "Get off the Ledge" as a sports fan.
That really sets him off -- so keep doing it please.

Holmes likes to pat hiself on his back to much for me. He actually kisses to much ass for me, but he denies it and wants to be seen as a hard hitting reporter, which he isnt.

Holmes also likes to say when he covers any particular game that "he wishes sometimes that he could watch the game as a fan".

That offends me because I take it as Holmes saying fans too big of homers to point out negative things in their favorite teams.

It also offends me because it implies that Holmes, in his reporter mindset, comes off as some sort of expert who is able to see things that fans don't.

Holmes reports on the sox's as a fan, anyone can see that. When he reports on the Bears, he isnt nearly as tough on them as he thinks, especially if he has a player in studio or on the phone.

He had Tommy Harris on a week or so ago. He says Tommy we need to hang out when you get back in town. What type of reporter asks that? Not a good one. Tommy kind of indulged him but he's not hanging with Larry.

In the end Larry is just a star struck little kid in the presence of Bears players. He wants to buddy up to them and get their approval. He wants them to think he's a playa.

Listening tonight....was a little irritated at his response to a caller.

A few weeks ago he says that some callers/texters don't want Smith to get a new contract because he's black, and Holmes says that the Bears don't think that way. I agree with that. Why else would they have hired him in the first place ? Stupid logic by some idiot fans, but how many text message, phone calls saying that ? Three ?? Four ??

A good example of Holmes taking a very small # of people, and using them as an example of how others feel. I personally thought he threw it out there for discussion on his show, a nice controversial topic to discuss race in sports from a host who has been known to bring up race in the past.

Laurence is all about race, he gets that from......never mind, if I say it, I will get accused of bashing a certain person that use to work there. Anyway, Larry needs to get away from the Mike North thought process and only bring race in when it is really necessary.

I agree. He uses it when he's solo. But when he's with Bernsie and Bernsie simply says "no there is no race issue involved there" he cowers up because he knows that voice sitting next to him won't go away. Unlike a caller who he can hang up on and then go on with his spin.

With Bernsie there he knows he can't be the illogical baiter because Bernsie won't have it. Bernsie will put it to Larry logically and Larry knows he doesn't have a retort.

Nwo. What former employee are you referring too. Hood? Obviously.

There was a case where he was sitting in with MJH talking about the Boston anouncer telling the women ref to make eggs for him.

The caller said "how would a black person feel if somebody said go shine my shoes". Clearly just making an analogy.

Hood goes. "Why don't you take the white hood off the phone so I can hear you."

Mac goes. "Hood he's just making an analogy I think you misunderstood him."

"I don't think so". Says Hood.

It clearly was an analogy. Either Hood is stupid or just looking for a race fight but it was comical.

Hood kind of felt like a jack ass because Mac rightfully didn't back him.

All viable options for a night time show.

- Mike Bloomberg

- Brian Paruke (either solo or with Drinky)

- Hell I'll even put in Zaidman with maybe Brian or even Rongey. Zaidman isn't half bad, but many of you are too into your sports talk and will bash any guy who isn't from the original Score era.

I don't think that's the reason people don't like Whispering Zach.
