Guy was an absolute stud back in the day. Loved to watch him play. A red-ass of the highest quality.

Many years ago -- maybe late 80's -- one of the majors was at Medina. I went and watched a practice round. Saw Seve hit his tee shot deep into the woods. Then somehow he managed to hit his second shot out, over and around what seemed like 500 giant trees and put it smack dab in the middle of the green. Just a practice round but amazing stuff.

I get into trouble and it takes me 4 shots to recover.

And my wife was always hot for Seve....

You're definitely on point with that, bro! But I'm still a stud in the present day too.

Seve was quite something from the late 70's to the early 90's. I think the story was he learned to play with the end of a pipe pounded flat and hit balls off the sand on the beach. Or that may have been Old Tom Morris.
Anyway, like Spank said, way too young.

Retard, I think it was in '90. It was my first major, the US open. I was there for the first round. Got to see all the now old greats Jack, Lee, Arnie and Gary. Good times. I think that was the Hale Irwin win where he circles the green high-fiving the spectators.

One of the greatest golfers ever. His shotmaking ability and short game made him Phil Mickelson before there was a Phil Mickelson. To date, there still hasn't been a golfer who could put together an unbelievably-entertaining round like Seve could.

Yep, a sad day for the golfing world. I will say I hated him when he played on the European Ryder Cup team, but I hated him because he was so good and brought out the best in the team. He was a marvelous short game player that always had the flare for the dramatic. Rest in Peace Seve, thanks for all of the memories.

I felt bad that the first thing I thought of when I heard the news was Alan Partridge's description of Ballesteros. "A friend of mine said recently; 'What do you get if you cross a ballerina and a bastard?' - Ballesteros, was his answer. I guess, if you analyse it, Seve combines the qualities of both those animals. He has the lithe sophistication and nimbleness of a ballerina, combined with the hard-nosed, ruthless thuggery of a bastard."

Never read that, that is pretty spot on if you ask me.

Always hated him. Tremendous sand player.

Takes some effort to separate my childhood emotions from my adulthood compassion.

RIP

I had my troubles with Seve, as well. One of my favorite moments watching golf was the '86 Masters, when Jack was making his move and Seve hooked his shot on the par 5 13th in to Rae's Creek. At least as I remember it was the 13th, coulda been the 15th. I recorded that Sunday round on my Sony beta VCR, damn, I'm old. That was the best Sunday round of golf I have ever seen.
The Bear was back on the prowl one last time. In the words of Vern Lundquist as Jack rolled in his eagle put on 15, "Yes Sir"....

Reason, we are old together. I remember that round vividly and it was also my most favorite Sunday ever in golf. It was on the 15th and I cheered loudly when he hit the quack hook.

As another old timer who loved the game, but hated the man, I must say he taught me a lot of ways to get out of trouble. He showed me that the 6 iron is a club I can use anywhere.

Sad end for a great player and a big reason why the professionals play more of a
world schedule now. He really helped make golf a global sport by opening the
European flood gates.

And it was nice seeing K. J. Choi doing the high fives and tossing his birdie ball into the crowd yesterday. You don't see much of that any more. Not that I would do it if I were in his position. I would be too busy wiping the poop off my pants.
