How smart do you really have to be to follow baseball?

Red Sox are .5 games behind the Yanks. The Yanks have a 50% chance of winning the division while the Red Sox have a 25% chance.

That site fascinates Bernstein, and the new age knowledge that strikeouts are OK!!!!!

The problem with that site is they play the season a million times NOW but teams are going to change because they make fucking trades. What if a team acquires King Felix at the deadline?? It throws off everything because that team is stronger and the Mariners are weaker. That site is a fucking worthless waste of time and it kills me how much credence those idiots give it.

Maybe Bernstein can get Adam Dunn back on live and tell him his strikeouts haven't hurt the team.

Yeah, I don't mind some casual conversation about what their program projects, but bernstein will say something like "the Sox have a 16.1% chance to win the division" as if that is some kind of mathematical fact. It obviously isn't. And someone as smart as dan should know that. Yet he'll keep insisting upon it and slamming any caller who tries to explain to him why that isn't gospel truth. Of course, Terry knows it's absurd too, but he puts up very little fight these days. The best that can be hoped for is that drinky pops in and calls him out on the foolishness.

While I think Sabermetrics help fans to understand the game and are interesting, you cannot account for luck. Luck plays a huge role in baseball, easily the largest role in any sport that I have watched. Hockey come closest, but you really cannot project for that.

Now, saying something like "Adam Dunn will end up the year hitting around .250 because that is what his career numbers suggest" is totally fine, saying "This team has a 27.3 percent chance to win" is something totally different. Its much easier to account for an individual than a team of them.

How did what I posted get turned into this? Not everybody is a dumb B and B caller. This reply would make sense if I stated "You don't know what these guys think unless you have played baseball"... which would make no sense and is a great reason for me to not make such a statement.

Bernstein has a very short memory...Albert Belle put up some monster numbers for the White Sox for 2 seasons...AFTER THE WHITE SOX WERE SAFELY OUT OF THE RACE.....
Adam THE OAF's numbers will mean JACKSHIT if the Sox are wallowing under .500.

Well of course a risk exists that he will get hot too late. But I don't see that happening, especially considering the Sox are at .450 during a very difficult part of the schedule and are nowhere near playing there best baseball. June and July are when the White Sox have to capitalize on a weak schedule. If they do not do that then it is time to worry.

As for benching Dunn, the guy needs to hit to get out of his slump. Sitting him is not going to help him. He knows he is sucking, he has called this season "embarrassing" for him, sitting him on the bench for an extended amount of time would be moronic. What if the Sox had benched Dunn the game before? That late inning homer may have been the biggest hit of the game. As Rongey pointed out yesterday, he sat most of the game. We know that Dunn has the ability to hit much better than he is doing and at this point its all mental. Sitting Dunn on the bench would not help this.

Its not all just Pierre and Dunn's fault. The Sox had plenty of chances yesterday, I understand why Ozzie decided to pinch hit Dunn, something different had to be tried. Would I have liked Omar? Sure.

But yeah, its all Bernstein's fault.

I like it because its good akward radio.

Proabably half the callers deemed stupid are probably just suggesting something that Bern-Rang disagrees with. Like that Derrick Rose would win MVP. Remember those morons? Or the idiots that said Santos should close?

You're right. It's a station wide edict set forth by Dan Bernstein to call people stupid at every opportunity.

Thank you for opening my eyes.

Except that its been done countless times throughout baseball history and has worked a good amount of the time.

See this /\ is a perfect example. There are some guys who would benefit from a few days off. There are some who wouldnt. Every situation is different. A case could be made for both sides by anyone who knows baseball.

But Rang-stein decided its definitely better to keep running him out there. So anyone who disagrees is ....moronic.

Thats so hilariously arrogant.

And what if you sat him in one of the 30 games he's failed in a big situation?

This is silly.

I like it.

So a guy can't have a good season on a bad team? It means "JACKSHIT" if an MVP doesn't lead his team to the playoffs? I know that the one big goal is the win the World Series, but one guy can only do so much in baseball.

Case and point:
Image

Now, I know the Sox aren't as bad as the '87 Cubs overall were but still. Does not take away from the fact that Dawson had an awesome year.

And one of us cares what Bernstein thinks. About everything. To the point where his name is brought up out of nowhere.
