5th round the Sox take LHP Scott Snodgress 6'5" 210 from Stanford (Kenny loves his Stanford guys).

Looks like he's a setup guy. 2-2 4.65 ERA with 2 saves.

Not ranked in top 200 and with numbers like that why should he be.

No Nick Burdi or Johnny Ruettiger yet.

5th round and we're down to mediocre set up guys?

Must have tremendous upside potential

Johnny Ruettiger (Joliet Catholic) went to the Orioles in the 8th round.

Nick Burdi (Downers Grove South) still hasn't been drafted through 12 rounds. Looks like he's heading to Louisville.

The Cubs drafted CF Taylor Dugas (5' 7" 165) in the 8th round. In 2-3 years he's the next Ryan Theriot/Sam Fuld/Tony Campana.

Nick Burdi finally got drafted by the Twins in the 24th round. Have a nice career at Louisville and try again in 3 years, Kid.

Prediction:

In the year 2013 at Wrigley, the young Gretzky will hit a line drive foul ball in the stands, hitting his dad in the head. The Great One will be removed on a stretcher while his son continues his AB.

Not sure if you saw this Hawger but the Sox drafted Colin Kuhn in the 17th round and Kyle Robinson in the 28th to go along with Andy Wilkins who they drafted last year.

If all these guys make it to the bigs you may have to become a Sox fan.

We're now in different leagues.

A little Boyd Story Time for you. I became a Sox fan because those were the games my dad could get tickets for when I was a kid. The other end of that was if it was the paycheck that he has some cash to spare, and it was baseball season, but the Sox weren't in town, we would high tail it to County Stadium to take in a Brewers game.

Those childhood memories have carried on, and the Brewers are my National League team.

I think even a Gator fan and a Razorback fan can find some common ground on this one.

 , that was almost as good as story time with JORR. :P I don't necessarily hate the Sox, but I remember there being some crazy games between these 2. Of course I am sure having 2 bumbling idiot managers in Garner and Bevington didn't help the situation either.

Also, the Kuhn kid is from up here in Wisconsin. Specifically Beaver Dam, so that is a cool thing if he ever makes it up with them.

The Chicago White Sox have reached an agreement with their first pick in the June amateur draft, Central Arizona College switch-hitting outfielder Keenyn Walker. The signing will become official by next Tuesday, after Walker passes a physical examination.

It's official. Walker's deal is worth $795K. That's about $50,000 above slot. Walker will report to short season rookie ball in Great Falls on friday.

The Orioles have signed outfielder Johnny Ruettiger, an eighth-round draft pick out of Arizona State, for $160K, according to Jim Callis of Baseball America.

Good work, Johnny. Go get em Kid.

The Brewers and fifth-round pick Michael Reed have agreed to terms on a $500,000 bonus. That's more than three times MLB's $154,800 recommendation for the No. 161 draft slot.

This doesn't bode well for the conspiracy theorist who think Dan Vogelbach is signed but MLB is holding up the deal. Why would MLB hold up that deal and announce a 5th rounder who signed for 3 times over slot??

The Brewers have also reached a deal with 2nd rounder RHP Jorge Lopez.

The deadline to sign draft picks is midnight tonight. It should be a very busy day of signings with 8 of the top 10 picks still unsigned and 23 of 33 first rounders. With the incredible amount of money team have already thrown around on signings this year I expect all top picks to sign. A couple may slip through like Tyler Beede (Blue Jays) or Joe Ross (Padres) but they will be turning down A LOT of money.

Confirming our rumor from yesterday, Perfect Game USA’s Kendall Rogers (who has first reported a number of draft signings this year) is reporting that Chicago Cubs’ 14th round pick Dillon Maples did not show up for UNC football practice today, has taken a physical with the Cubs, and is signing for “huge” money.

It was expected to take a “huge” sum to sign high school All-American pitcher Maples, who was committed to play baseball and football at UNC this year.

Maples was as first round talent, who slipped because teams felt he would not forgo his commitment to UNC for any amount of money. Well, soon we’ll find out just what his price was

Kudos to the Cubs for stepping up on Maples, and others in what is quickly becoming a tremendous draft.

The Cardinals signed second rounder Charlie Tilson (New Trier) for $1.275M.

I didn't think Ole Charlie was going to U of I. Nice signing by the Cards. They signed their first round pick Kolten Wong early and he's having a nice run in low A (.327/.386/.500). The Cardinals building a hell of a farm system.

Dillon Maples Draft Profile
By Matt Grabusky– May 22, 2011
Posted in: 2011 Draft Profiles

Player: Dillon Maples
Position: RHP
School: Pinecrest HS, NC
Date Of Birth: 5/9/1992
Height/Weight: 6’3/197
Bats/Throws: R/R
Class Of: 2011
Committed To: North Carolina

Scouting Report:

In alot of drafts, Dillon Maples would be a sure first round selection. Even in the 2011 draft that is heavy in pitching talent, Maples has a shot to be a late first round pick.

Maples throws in the low to mid 90′s with late life on his fastball. His curve is a plus pitch at times. He also throws a change that has shown some potential. Maples has a compact delivery with short arm action. He uses a mid to low 3/4 arm slot.

Cool. Looks like Ricketts is spending some cash. Hopefully Wilkens drafted players worthy of these above slot bonuses.

Cubs sign 11th rounder Shawon Dunston Jr. for $1.275 million.

Shesh. If they're willing to throw this kind of money around for these guys they better give Maples his $3M.

Cubs Pay Vogelbach $1.6 Million

Posted Aug. 15, 2011 5:18 pm by Jim Callis
Filed under: Signings
The Cubs have inked second-rounder Dan Vogelbach for $1.6 million, the largest bonus outside of the top 10 picks so far. MLB's recommendation for his No. 68 slot was $537,300.

A first baseman from Bishop Verot HS (Fort Myers, Fla.), Vogelbach made a name for himself last December by winning the Power Showcase–an international high school home run competition–and launching a 508-foot blast. By comparison, Bryce Harper's best at the event a year earlier was 502 feet. Vogelbach has gotten in better shape since letting his weight swell to 280 pounds in the summer before his senior year, though he's an all-bat player limited to first base. He had committed to Florida.

That's a lot of pizzas!
