The only reason I would like to see Santo in the HOF is to shove it up Joe Morgans ass. Joe Morgan was the 5th or 6th best player on the Reds dynasty and at every turn he will discard Ron Santos numbers and tell everyone that he speaks for the veterns committe.

I hate Joe Morgan and if there anyone who does not belong in the hall of fame it's Joe.

What makes this all very interesting is the fact that Santo was off the writer's ballot for a number of years becuase he did not get the required minimum of votes; this was in the early 80's ( I believe) and those were the writers that saw him play.

What has changed that all of a sudden he is being done a horrible crime? It is the following: the election of Bill Mazeroski by the old veterans committee - up until that point, Santo was never a real consideration of the veteran's committee ( it was whomever Ted Williams wanted in and then the favorite of who did Ted that favor; before he died, Willimas was pushing hard for the leection of former teammates Dom DiMaggio and Mel Parnell). And you can't forget the "played with diabetes" card - which is now driving the "Ron doesn't having many years left" so let's get him in so he can enjoy that moment" school of thought.

If you take the diabetes issue off the table, he goes back to borderline. If you want to bring in extenuating circumstances, then you need to look at the injuries of Tony Oliva, or the early heart attacks of Gild Hodges ( in 63, 68 and the big one in 73- which makes you think that Hodges played with a bad ticker) or the fact that Hodges lost four years to WW2.

You can come up with reasons and circumstances for all these guys - Ron Santo was never on the radar of most of the voters until recently - and it is his disease and its side effects that are making him "voteable".

The Telander article makes a good case for him, but he is a Cub for heavens sake

I know that is not an intelligent argument, but what the hell.

You know anytime the Cubs get the shaft (or think they do) Murph is on it like Kerry Wood on the operating table.

I imagine back in that year that I was able to lay down a pretty good stench.

Those Dolphins were really a breath of fresh air back in 72. They only became a stench in 85 and today they really wreak.

Never let facts get in the way of a good story I guess. 69 percent of these so called elitest vets voted for Santo. Morgan said he voted for Santo all 3 times.

It's the fact that they need 75% that is strange. But if 69% voted for him that's a vast majority and you can't call those guys jerks. But hey. Why look at this objectivly?

Let's get Bert Blyleven in the HOF before we worry about Ronnie "woo woo" Santo.

MVP in 1975 or 1976. Not shabby for the fifth- or sixth-best player on a team.
Here's my list
1. Pete Rose
2. Johnny Bench
3. Joe Morgan (22 seasons, .271 avg., 268 HR, 1,133 RBIs, 2,517 hits, two MVPs)
4. Tony Perez (23 seasons, .279 avg., 379 HR, 2,732 hits, 1,652 RBIs, 0 MVPs)
5. George Foster
6. Dave Concepcion
7. Cesar Geronimo
8. Dan Driessen

Morgan comes off as a jerk, but he was a key member on The Big Red Machine.
MVP in the two years the team won the World Series.
