11-9, we are leading, bottom of 4 (which is the final inning)

Bases loaded, 2 out, grounder to SS, throws a dart to first, 1B makes a perfect catch, but being the cockiest 6 year old in the league (Thanks ESPN), he catches the ball while walking off the bag in celebration of winning the game. I honestly did not see if he was on or off the bag as it was so close.

As I am standing right next to the play and it is up to me to make the call, no umps, I call the runner?____________

Safe, without hesitation. And the added bonus of these kids learning the valuable sports life lesson of blaming the refs when shit doesn't work out.

yes, we all know I should go tell the guy running the system of about 1,000 kids, every year of how to redo the league rules because Killer V thinks it is too much for the kids to handle, or they don't get it, or they don't improve.

There are a ton of parents that agree with you, they are called wives.

FYI, similar play earlier, our kid held the ball for maybe 3 seconds on a throw to first, but then dropped the ball. I called the kid safe, while all the parents on our team booed me.

Who said anything about changing the rules? I'm glad your 6 & 7 year olds (and associated older league officials) are so serious about t-ball (my bad, coaches-pitch...ball).

And people wonder why parents attack coaches and refs at little league games.

So what would you have done? Not made a call and told everyone they are all crazy?

Couldn't you sneak a peek at the jumbotron?

I'd call the batter "safe."

Then based on your league, the 1st baseman is fined $200 and suspended for 10 games, and hopefully he doesn't get beaten at home tonight.

:P

There is no doubt I see the ugliness going on in this league. Last week, in the 8/9 year olds 2 coaches went at it, chest bumping and wrestled to the ground. I have no idea what it was about, but saw the take down.

Waiting for a of the other "Board Tee Ball Experts" to chime in. Maybe Keeping Score can explain what he would do, before I say what happened.

If you are the one who is supposed to make the call, then make one. It sounds like either way you'll have people screaming at you. If the kid was being cocky and walking off the bag, then the batter should be safe, if for no other reason than to teach the kid to finish the play before celebrating.

You could easily coach in the league.

Out. You said yourself you didn't see the play so you have to assume he completed it. Intent is fine at this level.

I would if I could. This league sounds 10x cooler than the one I was in 15-20 years ago when we had to wake our coaches up to give us our damn juice box and doritos after the game.

I called the runner out as the intent is exactly what I said. In this league you look to see if the kid catches the ball, pulling your foot is usually not an issue. Obviousely , I am looking at the play and they do have the 2 bases at first (Orange for the runner, white for the fielder) so IF he did it was amazingly close. The throw easily beat the runner.

A loud BULLSHIT came from the other side of the field. The other teams coach comes running out at me, with a "Are you serious?'. I explain, he caught the ball. Finally the other coach settles down and explains to me if it was a tourney, he would not allow that.

Then came the fun of the other teams head coach taking our kid aside and explaining to him that he can't pull his foot or step off the base, because he is only there to help the kids (LOL)

Of course the issue didn't just die, then the coach tells me way after the game, that he also bobbled the ball. lol

I chose not to comment and realized at that time the guy is just a dick.

To be honest, I was ok with our team losing a game. it would be a good thing for this group.

This league sounds awful, not because the coaches are involved but because they have no perspective.

I can only imagine the traveling team from your league.

All this is great, but why would you call the kid safe after the first baseman held the ball for 3 seconds?

He called the kid out. Reading is comprehensive.

The orange base is about as burrito as it gets. There is nothing more that needs to be said.

#1, watch the play next time if you are supposed to.

#2, apparently we need a T-ball section.

I am truly thankful that my kid never played in a league like that during his T-ball days, that is absolutely crazy. The stupidity of parents never ceases to amaze me.

Tonight was a good example of how tee ball should played. A handful of times during coach pitch, foul balls were kicked fair by coaches and the kids ran to first. The game was quicker and the kids still had fun.

That's absolutely fine because they intended to hit the ball fair. I've heard that in the MLCP (Major League Coaches Pitch) that even though every player is awesome and the owners, coaches, & parents are sticklers for the rules, intent is all you really need to show to get the call.

So parents are too lazy to stay a couple extra minutes and let the kids have more fun? Wouldn't the kids have even more fun if they had 5-10 extra minutes of baseball? I know when I was a kid, I always begged my parents to let me stay out 10 more minutes so me and the friends could keep playing whatever we were playing.
