What are you talking about? He only has 2 blown saves, maybe 3 bad outings. Are you forgetting that he went 20+ innings before he allowed a run? He has done great, especially considering he hasn't been a closer before.

Joe Orr Road Rod wrote:
And I'd appreciate if you would stop acting as if anyone suggested bringing in Harrell instead of Santos. But it isnt unreasonable in any way to get a guy up after four straight guys reach and the pitcher is clearly coming undone.

Well it doesn't matter if you think that is what I was suggesting. Because only Harrell and Ohman were left. Its the reality of the situation. Just like the reality of the situation is that Santos had two outs and nobody on base. You cannot just pretend that this didn't exist. The decisions was between Santos, Ohman, Harrell in a game saving situation. Again, NO mlb manager would start warming someone up with 2 out and nobody on. Especially considering Santos has gotten hitters into two strike situations several times.

Two mop up guys vs the guy who has been closing all year who had gotten two people and nobody on base without having the best stuff.

Now the concern is that Santos bounces back, if he doesn't than its an issue. Also, whats up with calling me an "idiot" and "moron"? What the fuck did I do to you besides suggest that some of your "baseball thoughts" are irrational and wrong. Anyways I am done talking about this.

Such is baseball. It all evens out in the end.

I suggest you read over your posts in this thread. It's funny that more than a few guys who post here like to fire on people and when they get it back they react exactly the way you just did. I'm honest. I flat out called you an idiot. But I only did that after you ridiculed me. You can call someone an idiot without using the actual word, you know? I just don't dance around shit. I can be cordial if you can.

Anyway, I wasn't addressing what most managers would do. I know most of them would simply die with their closer. As Mr. Reason pointed out, that's the easiest thing for them to do. Nobody is going to question that. But that doesn't make it right or smart.

I listened to Rongey have a long and uncharacteristically polite discussion with a caller about this yesterday. It pretty much came down to not hurting Santos' feelings. Hey, Guillen knows his team better than I do. Maybe he thought taking the guy out was going to shatter his confidence for the year. But if that really is the case, I think you have to look for a tougher guy to close out games. And I guarantee you before this season is over, in another situation with another player, Guillen will go nuts and say something like, "I can't worry about people's feelings. I got to win ballgames for the White Sox". He's said that before.

Dunn is about to go on a big run, he has been on the cusp since he came back from the break.

Doesn't look good today, but he has looked better recently. Hopefully this doesn't shatter his confidence, he seems like he is the Sox second biggest headcase behind Q.

Tigers already lost, Tribe losing big late.

HUGE 3 outs to get here, Sergio. Get this one, and then its a mere 3.5 games out!

See. Exact same scenerio as last time. Ozzie leaves Santos in and the Sox win. So now it's a smart move, right?

Haven't seen the replay in slo-mo, but looks like the Sox caught a break. Should be a good Twins series. Sox 9 of 14 Twinkies 8 of 10.In the next 25 games the Sox play only one team that's over .500 the D-Backs, so its time to make hay while the sun shines. The only thing if Dunn is getting hot is inter league play

A wins a win. 6-4 homestand isn't great but they'll take it. 3.5 back after Detroit lost and Cleveland got their dicks kicked again. I think the only team playing worse than them in June are the Cubs.

edit: they're both 2-9 in June so they're equal parts of suck.

Do you think so? I'd call it dodging a bullet. What it does for me is illustrate just how good Bobby Jenks actually was, in spite of being maligned his last two seasons with the White Sox. A real lockdown closer is hard to come by. But I'm not concerned with the problems of other teams. I heard on the pregame today that Ozzie insisted Santos was not his closer. That being the case, is it still verboten to back him up in the pen?

They had a guy in the pen ready to go according to Farmer, Chris Sale. When Ozzie went out to talk to Santos, Farmer was convinced that Sale was coming in.

In that case, why the change of heart? Yesterday I was ridiculed in this thread and advised that a manger NEVER backs up the closer and that Ozzie was smart for failing to do so Friday. Did he get dumber in two days?
