i rooted for the marlins in 03, and it really had nothing to do with them playing the cubs. ive always liked then ever since they won the 95 world series- knocking out the sox archnemsis at the time, cleveland indians.

Frank, put down the antifreeze and whisky sour.

The Braves won the title in '95. Marlins in '97.

I am as much of a Sox guy as the next, but this pitching staff has me nothing but worried.

It looks good on paper

WHITE SOX 13, CUBS 2

at Mesa, Ariz.

Sunday, March 4

White Sox at the plate: Paul Konerko hit two home runs, both solo shots and both his first of the spring. Jermaine Dye added a three-run homer in the fourth, and one out later, Rob Mackowiak hit a solo shot. Gustavo Molina hit a three-run homer in the eighth off Will Ohman.

Cubs at the plate: Derrek Lee hit his first home run leading off the fourth. Alfonso Soriano, who was 0-for-5 in the first two games he played, went 3-for-3, including an RBI double.

White Sox on the mound: Starter Jon Garland faced 11 batters over three innings, and gave up two hits and one walk while striking out one. It was Garland's second spring start. David Aardsma faced his former team and gave up two hits in one scoreless inning.

Cubs on the mound: Left-hander Rich Hill, making his first start, gave up one run on one hit -- Konerko's first homer -- over two innings and struck out three. Juan Mateo gave up four runs on two hits, both homers, and walked two over 1 1/3 innings.

Cactus League records: White Sox 2-4; Cubs 0-3-1. Sunday's game drew a record 12,903 to HoHoKam Park, breaking the old mark of 12,894 set March 27, 2006, also against the White Sox.

Up next: The White Sox stay in the Valley on Monday and travel to Maryvale to face the Milwaukee Brewers at 2:05 p.m. CT. Left-hander Mark Buehrle is slated to start for the White Sox against Jeff Suppan. The Cubs travel to Peoria, Ariz., on Monday to play the Seattle Mariners at 2:05 p.m. CT. Mark Prior, Ted Lilly and Kerry Wood are scheduled to pitch for the Cubs.

You're really grasping at straws here. It shows how dismal this season will be for White Sox fans that they are relishing in the glow of a win in spring training baseball. From World Champs to this? Quite sad.

i admit its silly and tacky to gloat about a spring training win, but that doesnt mean i didnt enjoy dye, mackowiak, and paulie x2 jogging around the bases :)

i was actually more impressed with garland- especially getting out of that first inning jam.

Actually it shows how slow sports is right now MMB. Have the Cubs won yet this Spring Training? And when is Lou Piniella due to give birth?

more importantly...who's in right field when that happens? will jacque jones try to field the base and chuck it back to the infield? he'd better not because i think lou can throw a base farther, and with more accuracy.

If anyone would know about a season becoming dismal early it would be a cubs fan.

Hopefully after they induce labor so the fetus doesn't squirt out.

As a White Sox fan, I'm asking you guys to stop this crap - it makes all of us look like petty jackasses. You will be better off when you stop even entertaining the notion of arguing of who is better, or mocking Cub fans, or any of this stuff. It isn't a rivalry - we're the hammer, they're the nail. The hammer just moves on to the next nail....

its all tongue in cheek, paul-- at least from me. part of it was that i was just really damn happy to watch a baseball game (via MLBTV) again. its my favorite sport, and im happy its back. ive got a lot of friends that are cubs fans, and the banter between us goes back and forth generally all summer. but its all in good fun.

from what i just heard out of mac, i think he's getting ready to light us up

My thoughts exactly, Mr. MUScholar. The beloved New York Yankees are the golden hammer, and there are 29 little tin nails to be pounded in with merciless abandon.

The evil empire is going to be a scray bunch SR. Cashman FINALLY wised up and traded some tired veterans for a bunch of young arms (though he couldn't stop himself signing Pettitte). I hate to say it but I see the Jankees in a walk this year......

Why is he an idiot?

A) Because he's having some 'event' during a Cubs/Sox weekend?

B) Because he's getting married

C) All of the above

I'll say "C".

I went to a Bosnian wedding last night (of all days).

and let me just say....Bosnian girls are hot! However they all have very deep manly voices. :o
"Strong like, bull"

it was really interesting not knowing what the hell was being said or sung during speeches and when the band played. it was like 5 hours of polka.
