Wow, I really disagree with that.

You know if they are a capable MLB player or not. Even more, you know who isn't ready and therefore needs to go back to the minors or won't make it.

Players get better or worse all the time, but in the first 162 games you can definitely make a pretty good determination on whether or not they will stick in the majors.

OK but I'm not concerned with whether or not Bryce Harper can statt in the majors. I'm sure he can. I'm wondering if he can live up to expectations of stardom. That isnt usually evident right away.

We knew Jason Heyward and Ryan Howard were capble of starting in MLB before they ever played a game. We did not know if they'd be great

Your definition basically seems to be "any player who hasn't yet had the best year they will have". I guess Paul Konerko has been a prospect for about 10 years.

Something happened to Gordon Beckham last season... I think he faced the first real adversity that he's ever had to deal with in his semi/professional baseball life, and like, Ozzie went the route of keeping him up in the bigs to get through it up here, as opposed to sending him back down to mash, potentially getting his head on straight, then coming back up here with momentum.

Then again, I can see Ozzie thinking that if Beckham is in a horrible horrible funk and he goes down to AAA and continues to stink up the joint his confidence could be shaken for all of eternity, and then having him struggle at a level he previously dominated on his way up would be the last nail in the coffin of Gordon Bacon's ill-fated attempt to be DAS FUTURE OV DAAAAA DIE HARD WHITE FAN SAWX

basically, man, i've been burned by him for 2 consecutive seasons in fantasy baseball, assuming that he could be the guy we saw in 2009 or even the guy we saw from mid-july to early-september, where he basically hit .400 with a ~20HR-pace power and you're like "OK, that kid from 2009 is back" but then he got hurt... took his time off, came into spring training and looked like a ~.300ish hitter locked into that 2-hole in what figured to be a !!!! lineup, but then it went splat again and basically we'd sell our souls to have the kid end up hitting like .250+ with ~15HR and even ~70RBI, whereas in teh past man we figured if he was hitting .300/+ that the power would develop being in the 2-hole in that lineup feasting off of a steady diet of fastballs cuz he's in front of dunn... but then beckham sucked, dunn sucked worse, and like, here we are now.

basically, i expect him to be a ~.250 hitter with ~10-15 HRs/season and something like 50-75 RBI. if he could ever pull a ~.280/18/80 type season out of his ass i think i'd pull a hernstein and run down michigan ave in my underwear to celebrate bacon getting back to .280 for an extended period of time.

He is too good defensively to send down and he has shown that he can produce offensively on the MLB level. I am of the belief that it is more of a mental thing rather than a developmental/mechanics problem. He has been working with both Walker and Paul Konerko, this Sox team is full of veterans so its a good place for a developing player to be.

Thats not even close to anything Ive said. My statements have been pretty clear. I believe a player is a prospect until he defines himself. This usually takes a few years. After 3 or 4 years though, except in the rarest of cases, you know what a player is . Im not sure why I have to explain it like this to you.

Beckham is gonna have a breakout season.

I hope so. Though at this point, I would be with .260ish, 15-20HRs, 60-70 RBI, and continuing solid defense.

Boy was I wrong, he improved a little behind the plate but still struggled way too much. Thankfully, he is somehow continuing to improve on the defensive side of things. That being said, I think we see some improvement from Beckham this year. He does however have Escobar pushing him...

Was he juiced coming out of college and that first year? I try to not watch much of the Sox but he looks awfully small these days from when I first saw him.

He is turning into just as big a disappointment as Dunn and Rios. I never expected him to be THIS bad at the plate. Its pretty much an automatic out.

He did hit 2 balls out to right center yesterday, so maybe that is a small reason for optimism, but he's still been a terrible batter for the better part of 2 seasons now.

If you go to my Facebook page, I posted a link to Adam Hoge's White Sox mailbag that he posted on 670 The SCORE's page yesterday at CBSchicago.com.

When the Sox traded 2B Chris Getz & strikeout-prone 3B Joshua Fields to the Royals a couple years ago, I was excited when the deal paved the way for Gordon Beckham to play second base. After another 0-for-4 last night vs. the Orioles, I'm starting to wonder myself if the time has come for the Sox to send Beckham back to Triple "A" Charlotte and the Southsiders play Brent Lillibridge and/or Eduardo Escobar for the immediate future at second base until Beckham can regain his offensive confidence. The only other suggestion. I'm not sure if it's worth calling up either Ozzie Martinez (remember him?) or the just-acquired Jose Castro, whom the White Sox just acquired in a minor trade with the Reds on the same day the White Sox/Indians' game in Cleveland was rained/snowed out. The Sox are stuck between a rock & a hard place, not just with Beckham's continuing struggles, but also the Scott Bakula-looking 3B Brent Morel, too.

Hit for average last year. Doesn't steal a base. Good fielder. Never played at major league level and only a few at basts at AAA. He's 25 but he looks like he's 18.

Well, I don't know what to do...Watching Beckham & Morel bat these days is like a root canal! I know it's early, but neither look like they belong!
