does anyone have an idea of how much revenue the score would lose if they 86 pappy? I think the net gain of losing his salary would far outgain the loss of his"guys".

But you act like they wouldn't get new advertisors. This is so over rated about Pappy's guys. If the show is good and people listen people will buy spots. There were succesful radio shows before Pappy and they got advertisors. MJH get advertisors. B&B get advertisors.

Pappy loses to Mike and Mike. Somebody can do better.

The ad rates are set by the ratings. It's not like people say to Pappy. "Well you're 5th with men but we'll pay you at a 1st place rate because you are great. "Hey here is an extra 200 per spot because it's a thrill to advertise with you." They are business people. They pay what the market dictates.

If somebody else gets Pappy numbers the station will get the same money. If somebody does better they will get more money.

so you don't think some advertisers he is supposdley tight with will stop advertising on the score when he is gone or let's say espn signs him, will david spada (one example) follow him to new station. I know this is what north is banking on as his leverage in getting another contract.

Some will stay if they can get a return from the new guy. Some might leave. But you guys act like they advertise with him just because they like him.

These are all business's. They advertise because they want to increase revenue at their business. If they could get a return on their ad they'll advertise with anybody.

Like I said. There are plenty of radio shows and news broadcasts. They all have commercials. .

There used to be an ad buyer on Crow_On that said that they generally buy in blocks of time across a spread of stations, and as such they weren't too aware of who the show hosts are. What they're mostly concerned about is the ratings, and placing 'x' ads during the morning where ratings 'y' is achieved.

To an extent I imagine that's true, especially for national ad buyers. For local people like the Little Guys, I'm sure they know which hosts bring in which ratings. But even then, they're shopping ratings versus demographics versus rate sheets -- which spread of stations at which time slots gives them the biggest bang.

The point is, buyers don't ask for the time slot where Mike North has a show; they ask for the morning drive-in slot. Along those lines, Jesse Rogers could do the show instead, assuming the "morning drive-in slot's" ratings are maintained.

if that is the case, and north has bad ratings and no leverage, why doesn't the score get rid of him ?

Of course. This isn't some revelation. They look for demos, ratings all that crap. Then they buy their time. If somebody has the same demos and ratings as Mike the Score will gross the same amount of revenue in the morning slot. If the next guy does better the Score will earn more money.

It's really that simple. But the thing the Score realizes is they could get somebody to get Pappy's ratings for a quarter of Pappy's salary. Hell they could do better ratings if the host is acutally...umm...good.

They might like him but at the end of the day none of that matters. Some how Mike and Mike have a full bank of commercials.

I don't think Boers or Bernsie kisses any advertisors ass like Pappy does. Some how people want to sponsor their show.

It's all about. "I have something to sell. Can you help me sell it."

"How many people listen? What demographic listens. Ok I'll pay this."

They are not saying. "Oh Pappy your so great. Even though the going rate is 250 dollars per spot for your numbers I'm going to give you 400 dollars."

All right I'm done. I hope you all understand. I thought all of this went with out saying but I guess not.

Why not? They're national, they got the sports demo... It's not personal to an ad buyer; it's only personal to the guy who tunes in the station and listens to the program.

Seriously do any of you or anyone else buy the products that advertise on Mike North's show? Never understood why people put so much emphasis on North's sponsors. It's fn' radio, the spots will be filled up as long as you don't score FreeFM ratings.

Ok, I gotta go, there's a sale at HoBo!
