Whatever. You said the station wouldn't exist. Chicago is the 3rd largest market. Smaller towns have two sports stations. Chicago would as well if Pappy never was born.

It was defidently gonna start up in 1992. They just gave him a chance. Other people would have succeded. Hell. Boers and Mac did good numbers when the station started. So it's survival would have happened with or without Pappy.

I honestly think any of the Score's personal would be better then Pappy. All of Pappy's other crap aside. I just don't think Pappy knows sports.

By the way Nas. Where do you think Pappy gets his talent from? His Italian side or his Irish side?

I guess my question would be what did he do? I mean, he never had block buster off the chart ratings. He got killed by MJH in his afternoon shift. They let him go solo before that and that didn't produce anything. Mike and Mike beat him now.

Am I saying that anybody would have succeded at the Score's start? No. Shaer was short lived. The Bear and the Bull came and went. Maybe if they hired another guy instead of Pappy he would have failed. But the station it self wouldn't have gone under. They would keep plugging somebody else in until they found people with decent succes at their various shifts. A handful of guys have come and gone at the Score through the years. The station didn't and will never go out of business.

A sports radio station will always make money. If listenership goes down they'll just pay the hosts less and make up for the lost ad revenue that way. It will always have enough listeners to keep it a float no matter the host. People love sports here and a certain % will always listen to discussion of last night game no matter who is hosting. Some hosts are better then others and we have a competing station so the Score will always have to adjust.

I'm saying that Pappy never was this great success that you claim he was. They were a mom and pop operation to start. They didn't make huge money and thus the hosts didn't make huge money. So they had some profit. Sports was always the best option after they started. Better then switching to random talk. That's harder to make work. With sports you always have yesterdays game as a topic.

Boers and McNeil were the stations greatest success. They would have kept plugging in new hosts. It would have never gone under.

They foolishly gave him that contract and have been regreting it ever since.

Mac shouldn't thank Pappy. He should thank the idiots who gave it to him.

Mully and Hanley, Murph and BB all get better ratings then Mike. Most stations who lose to competitors in the morning usually lose the rest of the day, the Score is just the opposite, Mike is holding them down. Who cares what Mike did years ago, the Bulls wouldn't have won 6 titles without Jordan, so should they bring him back as the GM. Mike will keep his job, it's all about who you know and Mike knows alot of people, he'll probably take the 12-2 spot or he could produce the "ME" show.

the fact is, mike north, terry boers, mike murphy, et al are all tired and stale. the score needs new blood, and i'm not talking about abattacola and goff either. i mean, a complete unknown to replace north, if and when that day actually comes.

think back to when the score started. EVERYONE, except for shaer, were relatively unknown. the hosts were fresh and hungry. the problem with the current lineup, is that everyone is FAT and HAPPY and UNMOTIVATED. you hear the same, tired bits that you heard 15 years ago.

mike was refreshing in the beginning. he was a regular guy talking sports. now, he's a shaddow of his former self and apparently self-destructing. why not repeat that formula? for example, i wouldn't mind it if some people on this board had a show, by which they could grow and cultivate new listeners. i truly believe that an unheard voice in sports radio would breathe some new life into the once exciting genre.

but we all know that this would never happen because, unlike the maverick days of the original score, cbs would NEVER, EVER, EVER hand the reigns to an unknown.

2 pm-6 pm--Sleuth & Keeping Score (sleuth to keep the Murphy feud going)
6 pm-10 pm--Nas, SPmack, Ike & Buffone
10 pm through overnight: Grid, Beef Rockmore, Skip Skrobuton & Gunther Reimerschmidt.

If I did not know better I would swear Nas took the entire month to practice channeling my thoughts (except for the Scottie crap). There is nothing I can add that is different than what Nas has already written.

Similar to Murph, the hatred some have for Mike clouds there understanding of the past and future of the SCORE.

I will give you all a groundbreaker though. Feder has the story completely wrong. Mike is not talking to Fast Eddie for representation. He is talking to him for a future partnership.

For all the people in print journalism reading this, make sure you give me credit for the scoop when it becomes reality.

Dolphin, I know Eddie has dabbled in radio, and I think he has represented some radio personalities in negotiations. What sort of partnership would this be? Something other than an on-the-air activity?

I would definitely give that team a chance to win me over. It could be some great radio.

I have to agree. Both are larger than life characters that I think could work well together if they had some direction. Maybe replace one of the syndicated shows on WIND.

I'm not sure why they never went with North and Drinky. I hope Mike didn't shoot that down. Keeping Score

Didn't Mike come on the air and tell everyone that he decided the tryouts are over and that Annie was coming back?

Pencil me in for the David Schuster gig. Reporting live from the Big Ten Tourney for 96 staight hours would be my dream job. Michigan V Minnesota 48-40 was truly compelling stuff.

Jigs, mcneil, north, doug, terry, bernsie, shaer, t-dub, grobber, julie, memlo, mulligan, hanley, murph, george, jesse and many other I am forgetting is the reason the score is on the air today, as much as North would like to take all the credit, it's just isnt true and to say something like that, its just silly.

North was a big piece of the puzzle, but he is now the a big reason why the score is losing listners in the morning. His ego is hurting him, he wont admit mistakes and he wont make change because of that, so by doing that, he is only hurting himself and the station and that is going to cost him a job and money in the end, thats on him. He wants to blam Paul and anyone else for his show's failure, but he is the one who has total control and this shitfest falls on him.

Personally, I think North will go elsewhere when his contract ends, but that will be his choice, but in typical North behavior, he will blame eveyone but himself for the move.

NORTH HAS BECOME HIS WORST ENEMY AND HE IS TO STUPID TO REALIZE IT.

Don't forget - CBS Management is the WORST! Mike and Annie say so every day! After all, what other management would allow someone (like Annie) on the air to talk about something she has no clue about AND make 6 figures doing so. Damn CBS Management - they suck!

Yeah Nas I would need you to play the role of Jurko (for the comedic value) to keep me and Stickfigure from being at each other throats. Either that or keep the conversations away from race  But I will say that Stick has good taste in his rap music.
