bad call... and the "neighborhood " thing is gay as fuck..if you do not have the ball in your possession while touching second base then the runner should be safe 100% of the time..most fat fuck umps are useless and bad at their job...that is why those bums blow that call most of the time....but you are right about quade being in way over his head

JORR, did you happen to hear the announcers during the game? They also said - many times - that it was a bad call and that Quade was right.

Of course, one of those two announcers played many years in the big leagues, so he probably doesn't know anything about the neighborhood play either.

You mean on a Cubcentric national broadcast where after the Sox finally got back to .500 they wanted to dwell on everything the Cubs didn't do in the game rather than talk about the White Sox?

And the two middle infielders on Baseball Tonight agreed with me.

I'm not going to argue with that. But that has never been the way it's been since I've been watching baseball.

Keep that feeling in mind the next time you watch the Cubs turn a double play.

My opinion of the play yesterday was that Morel's throw was so far off, I wouldn't have given the out because it felt no different than when a wide throw comes into first and it drags the first baseman off the bag.

I think you may be talking about a different play, Boyd. The one where Morel's throw pulled Beckham off was a lot more to argue about in my opinion. They didn't complete the double play on that one and there's no neighborhood on a force at second. I could see screaming about that.

If this had happened to the Sox, and Hawk Harrelson or our very own FrankC were complaining about it, they would be getting barbecued. Double standard, I tell you.

You know who the best shortstop was at turning the double play.....Rico Petrocelli.

I though Morel had the wide throw to start the double play too...I was a little distracted early in the game and had it in the background.

Edit: I just watched the video on whitesox.com. They didn't show the angle Fox kept showing which made the throw look really wide.

After watching the angles on the video, given where the umpire positions themselves, I guess it was ok for the Neighborhood Play.

It wasn't a missed call. It's the call that is made all the time. I've supported my argument as opposed to those of you who just keep repeating that "it's a missed call".

Quade was ridiculous. But he's a ridiculous minor league dope who is in a position where he shouldn't be and doesn't have the respect of his own team.

Let me give you an analogy. It's obviously against the rules of basketball to carry the ball. Yet on many drives to the hoop players routinely take more than the one and a half steps that are allowed. While it isn't mentioned in the rule book, it has become NBA custom. What Quade did is akin to an NBA coach running on the floor like a nut to argue that a guy traveled after taking three steps to score. Would you call that a "missed call"?

I have seen the carrying the ball call made in the NBA when it is egregious as was the Beckham play.

Agreed. That was close enough. It's not like he was a full step away. :?

After thinking about it, good call or bad, it doesn't excuse Soriano from swinging on the first pitch.

Dunn, 2 for his last 25 over his last 7 games, gets the start at first.
What the fuck man.

The Cubs are throwing a minor leaguer so what the heck.

And he strikes out!

Wow.

Dunn is an automatic out man.
He's going to need a couple weeks off I think. :?

I'd still trade Soriano even up for Dunn.

He was just giving them a chance to pull off a double play.

This is a terribly played game of baseball...
The bad throw from Pena, the halfassed throw from Aram, the bunt k from Floyd (blamed on the stalking Pena    ), the doubling off of Bacon. Jesus and it's only the third.

And a terrible send for Soto to try to beat that out. Should have held at 3rd.
