Actually, I enjoyed hearing Mike getting more and more agitated as Fred continued to say Sosa was showboating. Then a caller asked about Jim Craig wrapping himself in the flag. Fred kept saying that was different, Sosa ran out with a flag after hitting a home run. Fred was saying if Sosa wanted to run out with a flag at the beginning of the game, that was OK. Mike kept saying anytime the flag is used it's OK. He tried to make it sound like Fred was disrespecting the flag, but Fred was just against the Sosa prima donna attitude.
By the way, this only came up because Mikey Two Times was trying to defend himself against one of the callers on WYC who crapped North for saying Sosa gave it his all every game.

sosa's flag-waving stunt was nothing more than self promotion. if mike thinks that sosa did it to honor the US, he's naive. everything that sosa has done has been to prove to the fans that he's a sincere and hard-working athlete and does acts that he perceives would win them over (i.e. running out to right field, (alleged) steroid use, and flag-waving)

anyone can see that his true motives were just the opposite.

Sammy was a fraud.

I still think he gave his all for 150+ games a year.

Sosa gave it all by swinging for the fences every single pitch. In the field he rested by standing in the same dirt spot for every single opposing hitter.

Sosa absolutly was a fraud. That flag moment was a joke. It doesn't suprsie me that a half wit like Pappy would fall for those Sosa moments.

Pappy - Look at dis Bebe!!! (Mike standing at attention in his basement while saluting.) Sosa's runnin around dem bases wit one of dem little American flags. What a great guy.

Yes he did. Remember how they used to have to re-sod that 5x5 patch a few times a year because it would wear out so quickly from him not going anywhere else?

This doesn't surprise me because North has always been in Sammy's corner.
Remember when he argued with people saying the corking incident wasn't Sammy's fault. How about when he berated callers that were upset with the SS Sosa leaving port a little early.
Mike has strong convictions. He's not a windsock.

I dont know what Mike North show ou were listening to, but he has bashed Sosa more then he has ever praised the steroid freak. Dont confuse kissing ass with conviction, there is a huge difference.

North sucked up to Sosa when he had him on the phone or in studio, but other then that, he has launched on the guy, thats why I was surprised to hear him praising the guy.

The 1st base coach had the flag and gave it to Sammy as he rounded 1st. The first Cub to homer that nite would have gotten the flag to take around the bases, it just happend to be Sammy. I got sick of Sammy also but when this happend I did think it was pretty cool.

I always enjoyed when the Cub lost a game or Sosa whiffed.

It must have been a good 15 years for you then.
