Went to the game the last 2 nights.

Wednesday night, once the rain subsided, SP prospect RH Jake Petricka took the mound. Apparently some people in the organization believe he's the best SP prospect at this level. He's 6'5" with a good build. He hit 97 on the gun several times, but his delivery looks like he isn't able to repeat his mechanics yet consistently. A few got away and actually went over the batters head. Pitching coach Bobby Thigpen (yes, Thiggy, one-time single season saves record holder) had to go out and get him by the 4th after several weather delays, and he did not figure in the decision in a game the Dash (Winston DASH Salem, get it?) eventually won in extras.

2009 1st rounder Jared Mitchell is also down here, he's a speedy type LH hitter who has been playing center field and hitting 5th, despite the fact his stats probably don't warrant him hitting there. (In 293 AB he's hitting .225 with 8 HR, .295 OBA and .403 SLG%) He obviously has a few holes in his swing still, as in Thursday's game he whiffed badly in his first 3 AB and took a walk on a questionable call in his fourth. Oh yea, he also blew a can of corn in CF for a 2 run E8  This guy looks to be a ways off of AA, let alone the Show...

Apologist is by no means a trained scout, and with the spotty weather, had been rather drinky by the middle of the game both nights, so take these crude observations for what they are worth :drunken:

Don't lump me in with those shirtless cretins. If you examine my signature, you'll see I'm not a "real" Sock fan...

They absolutely LOVE Jacob Petricka. He was a 2nd round pick last year out of Indiana St where he was the closer. He has a high 90's fastball and wipeout slider. The Sox taught him a changeup that he has really taken to and turned him into a starter. Frankie Piliere is a scout who used to write for Fangraphs and now writes for scout.com. He may love Petricka more than the Sox. Said he has the stuff to be a dominating starting pitcher.

What did you think of 1B Andy Wilkins (Arkansas)? They weren't sure how his power would translate with a wood bat but he's hit 14 HR's this year.

Did you see my guy Santos Rodriguez pitch? He's a tall lanky left handed releiver that throws bb's but isn't always sure where it's going.

It's too bad you missed Jose Martinez. They just promoted him to double A.

Mitchell went 2-3 with a double, a homer and 3 RBI last night after the torrential rain called the game in the 8th.

I'm flying back to ORD in a few hours, so no more Dash games.

He's listed @ 6'6" and 185 but I swear he's probably more like 160. He's on the cover of the media guide I stole from the press box.
By the time S-Rod got into the game, I was typically pretty drinky. :drunken:
I seem to remember him striking out the side after walking 2 guys in one of the games.
