Yes, that is what I missed. Thus gaining arbitration eligibility, filing and then settling on $8 and $13M.

You should be very happy, you get a closer next year for $435K.

I'd be happy if he made as much as Carlos Marmol during his first 3 years in the bigs;

$430K (2008), $575K (2009), and $2.125mil (2010) respectively.

as well as the 17% with the most service that is more than two but less than three years (provided they have played at least a half-season in the majors in the preceding season)

Tim Lincecum, played 2 Full years in 2008 and 2009, nothing more. Just like Santos will this year barring injury. Lincecum was a Super 2 case and got $8 mill and $13 mill for 2010, and 2011....AVOIDING ARBITRATION.

You think the way it is structured the Sox can FORCE Santos to take another $435K deal????

Tim Lincecum had 2 years, 148 days of major league service time. This is becoming laughable.

Hey, what's going on? To answer your question, technically SS could be eligible for arbitration after this year, but probably won't be. The S2, you referred to is for those guys who are brought up for a few days in their first year or two of service. Then add on years 3 and 4 of full service and they are still short of 3 full years. So, we take the top 17% of those guys. It's a pretty small pool of guys, because they need to have served 86 days the previous year as well to qualify.
This would have been a good year for him to get it, as I expect the top 17% this season to have only needed 80 or so days of service to be eligible.

technically SS could be eligible for arbitration after this year

Thank you !!!

I do understand it won't happen, but per the rules the possibility exists.

So you decided to start a thread about something you understood wouldn't happen but 'technically' could?? Ok Bigfan.

Got an email from an Excellent source that confirmed what I was saying is correct. Not probable, but still correct.

I posted the email and still not good enough I guess.

You really must love the White Sox to post about them this much. If you don't, this is clearly unhealthy.

My options according to Dr Frank are:

1. I love the Sox
2. Something is wrong

May I ask your own self diagnosis regarding your drastic Cubs section posts?

  Not anymore biggie. You post FAR more in this section than I do the Cubs section.

I just looked, on the first page of the Cubs section you will find that I have started ONE thread. And that was the link to a video of a fan throwing back a HR from the LF stands that almost rolled into the visitor's dugout.

You have started EIGHT threads on the first page of the Sox section, only solidifying your hold on the biggest meatball on the board.

So, you are claiming you have recovered from whatever issues you had? What was the issue?

You have already conceded that Santos will have 2 years service time after the season so ask you 'Excellent' source aboout this technicality.

In order to qualify for Super 2 status, a player must have two-years and 122 days of Major League service.

Your 122 days is not correct. It is the top 17% of service time. Each year the Service time changes based on the players. They take the top 17% and determine the days. In one case it was 122 days. 2009 was 139 days.

Each year it is different.

And my "Excellent" source understands this better than you could ever imagine.

It's the top 17% of players with at least 2 years and 122 days of service.

I have no doubt your 'excellent' source understands but you on the other hand are struggling mightily to understand the process.

From the MLB site:

"A player with three or more years of service, but less than six years, may file for salary arbitration. In addition, a player can be classified as a "Super Two" and be eligible for arbitration with less than three years of service. A player with at least two but less than three years of Major League service shall be eligible for salary arbitration if he has accumulated at least 86 days of service during the immediately preceding season and he ranks in the top 17 percent in total service in the class of Players who have at least two but less than three years of Major League service, however accumulated, but with at least 86 days of service accumulated during the immediately preceding season."

Meatballitis, which has affected you much more so than anybody else on the board- myself included.

17 % = 122 days last year it was = to 139 days 2 years ago

It just matters who is eligible. If 10 guys are eligible this year and the most any of them have played is 50 days over the 2 year mark, the days needed for Super two would be about 40 days + 2 years + 86 days the previous year.

I have said Santos will PROBABLY not be eligible, but COULD BE, just like the Cubs have a Mathematical chance at the Playoffs, but Probably wont be.

All of the above is correct and drastically limits the pool size of these players.

I will regard all of Frank's statements not addressing the issue as his inability to do such intense computations and his love of the term meatball.

  Um...you are obsessed with the Sox. Fans of both teams take jabs back and forth at each other, but over the last 2 seasons you have gone above and beyond the normal jabbing and poking fun that goes on. I don't need to address anything, but you seem to need some real help with your over the top Sox hate.

Frank what do you suggest I do? You seem to have answers? Maybe check in for some mental help due to my Sox obsession?

I think the obsession most would agree with is your obsession with me?

Admission is the first step towards recovery. Good luck.
