White Sox Sign Doug Davis
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 15 at 3:32pm CST]
Doug Davis' stint with the Cubs didn't work out particularly well, so he'll try his luck with Chicago's other team. The White Sox signed Davis to a minor league deal, according to MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez, who suggests that the veteran left-hander will likely provide rotation depth in the minor leagues.

The Cubs signed Davis to a minor league deal in April after he worked out for a number of interested teams. The 35-year-old started nine games for the Cubs and posted a 6.50 ERA with 7.1 K/9 and 5.1 BB/9 in 45 2/3 innings. The Cubs released Davis after he gave up ten runs in one game to the Giants, who are 15th in the National League in runs scored.

Wow.

Kenny Williams is thinking what???

To be fair, Davis didn't look that bad when he faced the Sox hitters, and that's probably all of the scouting that Kenny did.

I'm just about to the point where I really and truly hate Kenny Williams and hope he is fired. This guy just signs players to feed his ego. He is truly clueless.

How does Doug Davis feed his ego?

Kenny signs anyone and any team's newly jettisoned player. It's like he signs players just to look busy. He pisses money away like a drunken sailor on weekend leave.

It makes sense.

The White Sox may still trade Edwin Jackson. That would leave them with a 5 man rotation, but Jake Peavy is always on the verge of injury so they could be down to 4 guys quickly should Jackson be traded and Peavy proves undependable. The White Sox don't have young pitching talent in the minors and they would probably only want a handful of starts from a stop-gap like Davis in August before going to a 4 man rotation in September, but they will need someone to take these starts should the above happen, and they probably prefer a washed up veteran over an overmatched minor league youngster.

ur wrong...the guy that does this is Hendry...and he does it bombastically, no matter how good or bad the player is...always hyping it up, etc..

Williams does things in anonymity, not to look like he makes splashes

Which is exactly the reason Mark Teahen is a member of the White Sox.
Clown Kenny saw him hit a few doubles off Buerhle and had to have him.
Kenny is an idiot.

Depth move, only way he see's major league action is if we have some serious injury (even if a starting pitcher is traded, we have six starters already). People need to chill out. Who knows, maybe he is really good with younger players.

I didn't realize you personally worked with Kenny Williams. Do you have any other stories for us?
