I can not believe that after all the bitching last year about not accepting a trade....he takes a trade to the Pirates.

It is official. DLEE to the Pirates. He was a pain in the dick last year about his "family" and being traded. Going to the Pirates regardless of their standing says alot.

Diamondbacks acquired RHP Jason Marquis from the Nationals for INF Zachary Walters.

Marquis is having a decent year and will give the D'Bags the veteran presence and innings eater they need. Walters is a 21 yr old switch hitting infielder. He projects as a utility-type.

The Rockies traded RHP Ubaldo Jimenez to Cleveland for LHP Drew Pomeranz, RHP Alex White, RHP Joe Gardner,1B Matt McBride.

Wow. Didn't see this one coming. Ubaldo hasn't been very good since last season's all star break but he is still young (27) and is signed to a very team-friendly contract. Pomeranz was the 5th player selected in last years draft out of Ole Miss and has dominated low A and high A this season with his low/mid 90's fastball and wipeout knuckcurve. White was the 15th player selected in '09 and made his major league debut this season before a finger injury landed him on the DL. Gardner is a sinker/slider guy who projects as a back of the rotation starter/long man and McBride is a 26 yr old still in double A.

Cleveland is obviously hoping a change of scenery will help Ubaldo find his form from last year because if he doesn't this trade will cripple the organization for years to come.

Rangers acquired RHP Koji Uehara from the Orioles in exchange for RHP Tommy Hunter and 1B Chris Davis.

Score one for Andy M-C-F-A-I-L. Uehara is a nice setup man but he's 36 and very injury prone. Hunter is 25 and has a mid-90's fastball. Davis is also 25 and plays 3B/1B. He has power to burn. It's a little hard to believe the Orioles got 2 young major leaguers for Uehara.

The Braves acquired CF Michael Bourn and cash from the Astros for CF Jordan Schafer, LHP Brett Oberholtzer, RHP Paul Clemens, and RHP Juan Abreu.

This is a quantity over quality deal as the Braves do not give up any of their top prospects for one of the top leadoff/ base stealers in the game. Schafer is the best player in the deal but he has struggled mightily in his brief stints with the big club. He's still only 24 and has plenty of upside. Oberholtzer (22) is in double A and projects as a middle of the rotation starter. Clemens (23) also in double A projects as more a bullpen guy. Abreau (26) is a reliever and is posting decent number in triple A.

El Caballo is still holding it down for them. I'm pissed that a team is actually worse than the Cubs. No one should be worse than the 2011 Cubs.

Will be be moved today? Lee is the most valuable player by far and least likely to enjoy being the center of a rebuild. You get him you also get 2 years of contract @ $18 mil (with a weight restriction)

DLee being DLee. He is taking his sweet ass time getting from NYC to Philly and will miss todays game and the Pirates are not happy about it. They have a thing or two to learn about entitled veterans.

So if you get the 10 5 NTC it doesn't stick with you once you leave the team you got the 5 with?

He obviously travels from city to city the same speed he'd shuffle back to the dugout after striking out.

Dlee is proof that post testing players are again falling off the face of the Earth at Age 34 or so.
Kind of nice to see again.

It doesn't. That's probably one of the reasons he is taking his time getting there. If I'm not mistaken D-Lee was the last time Hendry made a great deal.

DLee was the last time Hendry was able to fleece the poor. A chimp could have made that deal.

For most players this is true. There are some that I believe have found a way to cheat system. Ibanez is the first that comes to mind.

The Cardinals acquired SS Rafael Furcal from the Dodgers for OF Alex Castellanos and about $2.5M.

Furcal has been awful this season but injuries may have been the cause. The Cards are hoping a change of scenery will rejuvenate his career. As bad as Furcal has been he's still a clear upgrade over Ryan Theriot at SS. Castellanos is 24 and still in double A but has hit 19 HR's this year. He projects as a 4th OF.

The A's traded RHP Brad Ziegler to Arizona for 1B Brandon Allen and LHP Jordan Norberto.

Ziegler is a side-armer who is death on righties. He is a ground ball machine and has not allowed a home run this year. Allen is a former White Sox farmhand (Billy Beane LOVES those guys) who has bombed in the minors but has really struggled in his 3 stints in the majors. He's still only 25 and some consistent playing time could be all he needs. Norberto is 23 and currently in the D'Bags bullpen. He has a 5.85 ERA and has walked 22 and struck out 15 in 20 innings of work.

I just talked with Jim Bowden via an ESPN trade deadline chat. Logan Morrison is not available  I want him holding down 1st at Wrigley for the next 5 years. I am devastated at this update.

I may be wrong, but I don't think you understand what "bombed" means in baseball terms.

This is what I saw:

MLB Network
Breaking News: Ken Rosenthal reports the Rangers have acquired Heath Bell (RP) from the Padres. Tune in to MLB Network for more!

If that is incorrect, cool.

The Rangers acquired reliever Mike Adams from the Padres for RHP Joe Wieland and LHP Robbie Erlin.

Another reliever gets traded for top prospects. It's interesting that the Rangers chose Adams over Heath Bell. They are both having excellent seasons so the extra year on Adams' contract may have been the deciding factor. Wieland (21) is already in double A and has a no hitter to his credit this season. Erlin (20) is also in double A and is 8-4 with a 3.34 ERA.
