Jeffrey Earnhardt, now is that Kerry's son?

Yes. And I'm pretty sure he's already better than Kerry ever was. Which isn't saying much, but still.

Kerry was awful.

Things are getting frisky in the front. Was that near wreck Danica's fault, the car she was pushings fault or the car he almost hit?

I don't see how it could have been Danica's fault. She was pushing, it either had to be the 88's fault or the other car involved.

Dammit, Danica went to the front way too soon, should have been more patient.

and someone just destroyed a few million dollars worth of cars. Need a replay to see who caused that mess.

Steven Wallace started it so he gets the blame. If Danica wasn't clipped by the 88 after brushing the wall they all would have been ok, but Wallace started that mess as usual.

I cant wait for ESPN, FOX & TNT go overboard with the features & promotion of Danny. She drives like a Girl...

Danica Patrick is close to signing deal to run NASCAR in 2012 UPDATE: Danica Patrick is in the final stages of putting together her full-time NASCAR plan. Patrick is apparently going to run a full Nationwide schedule with JR Motorsports [in 2012], and run a limited Sprint Cup schedule with Tony Stewart in preparation for an eventual full Cup schedule.(ESPN/Associated Press)(8-2-2011)
UPDATE: Danica Patrick could still run the Indianapolis 500 even if she makes a full-time move to NASCAR, The Associated Press has learned. Two people familiar with Patrick's 2012 plans said she is in the final stages of a deal to run a full-time Nationwide Series schedule with JR Motorsports and limited Sprint Cup Series races with the team owned by two-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart. The people spoke to AP on condition of anonymity because the deal won't be finished until she has secured a release from Andretti Autosport. The talks also include her continuing to run the Indianapolis 500, one person told AP.(ESPN)(8-2-2011)

I've said it before and I'll say it again...DANICA PATRICK IS NOT READY FOR NASCAR!!! It's beyond ridiculous how she's been hyped to death, not only on NASCAR broadcasts, but in TV commercials for GoDaddy.com & Peak Antifreeze to name a couple. She should stay in IRL until she wins on a consistent basis! The likes of Jimmie Johnson & Jeff Gordon will have no mercy on Danica if she indeed races & crashes in a Sprint Cup race. KEEP DANICA OUT!

Here's a question, SHARK:

What had Trevor Bayne done, prior to the start of this season, to show you that he was ready for the Cup circuit?

Let me save you some time. Prior to the start of this season, here is a list of races that Bayne had won on any major, national (or international) racing circuit (stock, car, open wheel, drag racing, motocross, and more):
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Notice that the list is shorter than Danica's list. Where was all of the outrage from SHARK and ScoreHead when somebody let Bayne into Nationwide and a part-time cup ride?

Before he took the #21 Motorcraft Ford to Victory Lane in the Daytona 500, I had never heard of Trevor Bayne.

He raced on the Nationwide series the last few years. But that's my point - why all of the outrage over Danica? Somebody obviously sees potential in her and wants to give her a chance in the nationwide series. What's wrong with that?

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Danica Patrick will make her debut in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series in the 2012 Daytona 500, the Observer and ThatsRacin.com have learned.

Patrick is scheduled to make an announcement at noon Thursday in Phoenix, where she will formally announce a fulltime move to NASCAR beginning next season, multiple sources have confirmed.

Patrick’s fulltime move to NASCAR in 2012 has been widely reported over the last several weeks, but her Cup debut has so far remained unknown.

While Patrick does not plan to run a full Cup schedule until 2013, she will do eight to 10 Cup races next year with Stewart-Haas Racing, beginning with the Daytona 500, a source familiar with the announcement said Wednesday night.

Patrick, a fan favorite in the IndyCar Series, has made three starts at Daytona in the Nationwide series, with a best finish of 10th coming last month. She also 13 laps in that race.

Patrick will run her Nationwide schedule, as she has the past two seasons, with JR Motorsports and all Cup races will be run out of SHR. GoDaddy.com will sponsor all of Patrick’s NASCAR races, sources said.

CNBC.com's Darren Rovell wrote the following column about Danica Patrick's transition to NASCAR full time in 2012 before she made the announcement today about plans to run in next February's Daytona 500. If you think Danica's arrival will get casual fans to follow NASCAR again about a decade after the death of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and jumpstart declining ratings across the board in recent years, regardless if FOX, TNT or ESPN/ABC are broadcasting the race that weekend, you might be disappointed after reading Darren's column here:

The fact of the matter is Danica has won ONLY 1 RACE in her career. Juan Pablo Montoya, Sam Hornish, Jr. & Dario Franchitti have all raced in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series before Danica. While all 3 drivers had won in Formula 1 and IRL respectively, wins have been hard to come by for these three in NASCAR, too. I think Sam Jr. and Dario have since gone back to IRL in large part because of sponsorship issues and lack of winning. Danica's in for a rude awakening in my opinion. She's not that good.

Sam Jr. did not go back to IRL - he is the Nationwide series. You forgot to list Tony Stewart, SHARK. Hell, Robby Gordon has 3 Cup wins and he wasn't that good at open wheel racing.
Yes, it is a different kind of racing - cars are much heavier and bumping into other cars is a neccessary part of driving unlike open wheel racing.
But again - how many wins did drivers like Bayne, Menard, and Regan Smith have prior to getting Cup rides?

Here is a list of their prior wins:
1.
2.
3.

Yet hey've each won this year on the biggest series in NASCAR. She is going into the Natiowide series full-time, not the Cup. Keep that in mind. Also - "marketing people" (for lack of a better term) predict there is a chance she will be "bigger" and more popular (read: $$$$$) than even Dale, Jr. That is reason enough that most NASCAR fans should welcome her with open arms - as Dr. Ken has said on here many times.

From what I've read, Danica is indeed shifting to the Nationwide Series full time, but will ONLY run a fraction of Sprint Cup races, starting with next year's Daytona 500 in February. That means under NASCAR rules, she will be racing for a Nationwide Series title, not Sprint Cup. What pisses me off is how networks like ESPN shove this woman down our throat as if she's something special. The fact of the matter is she's not. She should stay where she is in IRL until she WINS MORE RACES and is better equipped to deal with what she's about to face in NASCAR, whether it's Nationwide Series or Sprint Cup.

In Tony Stewart's first 9 races in the Busch Series, he never finished better than 16th.

Wow, you are pretty passionate about her SHARK.

I'm gonna disagree and say that she is something fairly special in the world of racing. Can you tell me any other women that have won a race in a major auto-racing circuit?

I heeard some stat the other day about comparing Danica's first 1/2 season in natiowide to some other HUGE drivers, and she matches up very favorably (guys like Edwards, Harvick, etc.). It's just that her first 1/2 season has been spread out over 2 full seasons.

Isn't she special though? Isn't she the greatest female driver of all time in racing that requires you to turn? I know there is some girl who is good at the racing for people who like watching people drive straight but that doesn't count.

Winning IRL races isn't going to prepare her to be in NASCAR, running NASCAR races will - which is why she is doing what she is doing.

I think she smartly dipped her toe in the water and is ready to take the next step to commit to the series.

And she absolutely is special. She's an elite-level race car driver, female, attractive, and personable enough to be supremely marketable. That combo does not grow on trees.

Spanky, Danica has 1 CAREER WIN, and it came in Japan! IRL no longer races there! I've seen the magazine photoshoots, her appearances on the Red Carpet before the ESPYs, along with the commercials for Peak, Nationwide Insurance & those ridiculous GoDaddy.com ads that are nothing more than teases! Right now, she is to auto racing what Anna Kournikova was to tennis. Anna didn't win in tennis either...
