Nice job by the Sox.

It's amazing the things a team can do when they aren't bogged down by shitty contracts.

Great signing. If Paulie comes back he's gotta be at 1B. I wonder if Dunn signed the deal knowing he will play significant games at DH.

Dunn walks and hits home runs. That's what he's being paid to do, and a move to the Cell is only going to help him. In that sense it's hard to say this is a reach in dollars or number of years. The guy just turned 31, so he's being paid for his age 31-34 seasons. I'm pretty sure that he knew he would have to concede to play DH if he was going to get paid. He insisted on playing the field a couple years ago, and wound up taking the Nationals as the only serious offer. This guy knows he is going to be a DH, Paulie or no Paulie.

Bob, while Alexi's contract runs through next year, he stays under Sox control as arbitration eligible for 2012 and 2013.

I like this signing. It really wouldn't shock me to see a 50 HR year at least once in the life of the contract.

Give Buhrle what he has always openly talked about, a ticket to St. Louis, with Colby Rasmus coming here.

This will be a test of Bob's theory about the team not having a plan. If they can move Buherle and Quinten (along with some of the young talent) and somehow sign Konerko get Rasmus and relief pitching, that there is a championship caliber team.

This is the plan along I think. And with Teahen stuck here because he's untradable, he's probably your every day right fielder if you can get rid of Quentin. And the way Quentin has been hitting, you might get the same production from Teahen in a full year.

3B is now open for Viciedo but I dont trust him. Hopefully whatever you'd get would fill 3B but probably wont. Rasmus would be perfect for RF but that wont happen in my opinion. I see AJ staying now because he wont get a big offer anywhere else. And with a possibility of a farmhand at 3B, I dont think the Sox want to go young at two spots. AJ will sign on the cheap.

Buerhle and Quentin will be gone before opening day. They have to be to offset some of the money for Dunn and Konerko.

LF Pierre
2B Beckham
CF Rios
DH Dunn
1B Konerko
SS Ramirez
C AJ
3B/RF ?????
3B/RF Teahen

Don't pencil AJ in there just yet.... He is rumored to be close to a deal with Toronto.

Just because Buehrle would like to play for the Cardinals doesn't mean the Cardinals want him. I'm not sure you're going to get rid of Buehrle without eating some of his money.

Cardinal are not adding much money until they get a Pujols extension done. Mozeliak has stated that they have $15-$18MM to spend this offseason, and they've already blown $2.5M or so on Theriot (??)

Buehrle has to go and he's a lefty and he's not old. He has value. His money wont fit with the new money just spent on Dunn, KOnerko (hopefully), AJ and Putz (hopefully).

Boston? Toronto? NY's? Anahiem? LA?

There will be a taker.

They might have to eat some of Quentin's cash but thats not a lot in the whole scheme.

I have a feeling that when you look at the whole offseason, this deal is going to look pretty good. Sox are paying this guy through his age 31-34 seasons at $14.25 per. So far this offseason teams are handing out money at a steady clip, an old Juan OO-ribe just got $7m a season for 3 years. Aubrey Huff is getting $11M per at age 34(!!). Dunn has been amazingly consistent over his career, you know his limitations and what to expect. At a time when many power hitters seem to be in decline (for whatever reason), he almost seems like a lock for 500 HRs. He needs to average 36 in a Sox uniform to get there in this contract, and I would put him at (at least) even money to do so.

It's a good signing that will be a fucking fantastic signing if Konerko comes back. That would mean an 88 win team replaces Mark Kotsay with Adam Dunn. Fill in a couple spots in the bullpen with Putz and a LOOGY and go get 'em boys!

You can't talk about bad contracts. It means you are bitter and have an axe to grind.

Would you rather .....

Have 31 year old Adam Dunn at 4/$56MM?

or

Or 31 year old Jason Werth at 7/$126?

Nice find, Steve. I honestly thought Dunn would be a great pickup.

Anyone interested in some Enron stock?

On second thought Steve, stick your laughing emoticons up your ass.

While browsing the "view new posts" section, I saw that the "Rios to the Sox", along with the "Dunn to the White Sox" thread had been bumped....which seemed odd.

It's called having an opinion on something. You should try it sometime.

I'll hang up and wait for the next " the grass is green, the sky is blue and if the Cubs score more than their opponent they should win" phone call.

I don't get what is so funny about Matt's post though. The Sox didn't have bad contracts therefore they were able to get one of the best hitters in the game. Now, they have bad contracts and won't be able to do the same until they are traded. Rios wasn't a bad contract last year either. He performed up to it. This year is another story.

Your statement is still right. It's just that the Sox now have bad contracts.

I guess it takes a 5 game winning streak in August (Read: when it means nothing!) for Cubs fans to get chirpy

The Sox have been bad this year. Tell us something we don't know bigfan and steve. YOUR team has been worse

2011 Chicago baseball; much like the majority of the last forty years of Chicago baseball.
