Wow. So the Bears knew the field was shit as early as 1:00pm Friday.

Soldier Field ground crew failed to properly water field

The bad news is that the inability of the Bears to practice at Soldier Field on Friday night was avoidable. The good news, if there is any, is that the situation will be remedied before the August 13 preseason opener there.

“Over the last few weeks, we’ve had some extreme heat conditions,” Soldier Field general manager Tim LeFevour told Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune. “It was a miscalculation on our ground crew’s part. They did not get enough water on the field. Some of the seams opened up. It’s not an issue or concern with next week’s game. We know it can be corrected. But in the best interest of the team tonight, it was the right move to send them back to Bourbonnais to practice.”

LeFevour said that the Bears could have practiced on the field Thursday night. The problem was noticed at 1:00 p.m. CT Friday, and it couldn’t be corrected by the scheduled start of practice at 7:00 p.m. CT.

Fans who showed up for the canceled practice received reimbursement for tickets and parking. They were allowed to enter Soldier Field, where they were treated to free food and drinks, along with a fireworks show.

The mishap has yet to persuade the Bears to shift from grass to artificial turf. “Right now, the Bears have determined they want to continue to play on grass in the northern climate of Chicago,” LeFevour said. “And if that’s the surface they want to play on, we’re going to continue to commit ourselves to giving them the best playing surface.”

We’re going to continue to hope that the NFL steps in and tells the Bears to tear up the grass and install Field Turf.

Anyone who attends a Bears practice needs to get a life. Real boring ass shit. Those who got their money back last night made out in the end.

Lemme see-you charge fans to come into the stadium on a Friday after battling murphapalooza traffic and then tell them the players are gone but you can stay for pop and hot dogs and fireworks? Cuz no one watered the grass? This from the team that will pull your season tix if you are five minutes late with your payments? And they let the ticketing staff go on vacation during the only two weeks of the year where there is any actual work to be done in ticketing?
If you ever got one of their season ticket shakedown letters you would not be surprised at this situation. The Bears needed some help with PR and they hired a guy from Puerto Rico. I heard the Bears tried to hire Satan to the public relations staff, but during his interview showed too much integrity.

I am just wondering if this was the date all along, or was it supposed to be some other day, because if it was normal, the Bears were supposed to play the Rams in Canton tommorow night.

No matter what, the Bears and everybody involved look bad in this and now with the story about somebody forgetting to water the field, that looks worse.

Now the power is out at the fields in Bourbannais. Unreal.

So far they've lost the family night practice, the practice a couple of days ago because of the storm, and now tonight. They are moving to a local HS field to continue tonight.

I'm in total agreement. That has to be the most boring shit I have ever experienced and I sat through The Money Pit.

I feel the same way about people who go to spring training. You take a winter vacation to a warm weather spot and waste it watching bad baseball. Shit, even Howard Johnsons have pools to sit by and beers to drink.

Hey old country cocksucker, how is preparing your goat going?

I was at the zoo today. I saw a red assed baboon sticking his finger in the ass of another, I thought of you, and smiled.

It's better to be thought about than not to be thought about.

I thought that they couldn't put the best option down because they won't be able to host soccer events if they do because FIFA or someone doesn't allow that?

The Park District is to blame for the field the Bears are to blame for how it was handled.

The Park District makes money hand over first by hosting the Bears. They treat them like dirt.

If you are really desperate to see Soldier Field, the wolfpack battle whitney young next friday. I'll buy you a sweatshirt and you can pretend you went to the school, like southsiders on the Notre Dame campus.
