With more and more of the sportsbooks no longer allowing Instant Checking, I'm wondering if anyone uses their personal credit cards to fund their accounts. I was always under the impression that credit card companies would reject any transactions with online gambling acconts, but I'm not sure that this is accurate. Anyways, I would like to avoid any possibility of my credit card having a hold/freeze place upon it, and will only use it if I know it will work.

Anyone funding this way?

Maybe this is a jerky question but doesn't anyone go thru a bookies any more? Is it all online now?

I would say some people still use bookies.

I remember a couple of years ago, that the banks wouldn't allow it, but then it seemed like the loosend it. I imagine there will always be a way to get money into your account, just may have to go to a paypal to do it or somewhere else.

I have a couple locals as well as online (one far norf side russki, one near wesside gaylord or c-note or whatever they call themselves these days). The locals tend to let you ride more than they should for your own good tho.

There are actually some bookies that make you set up an online account in which you bet fake dollars online then meet u at the end of the week with your "play" money totals.

I told everybody months ago, to get your money out of these books while you still can. bookmaker.com was just seized, and I assume the rest will fall like dominoes soon.

Old school, use the book!

That said...Bulls +5 tonight (game 4). If you had to bet a grand on the game....which way would you go?

Gun to my head, I take the Boo and the five points. Or just fade whatever Mac picked.

Are you using a local bookie now?

If so, what are the rules that in place? Any minimum you have to place each week? Max Bets, etc, all cash transactions?..etc, etc,.

I may have to think about a bookie option, problem is I'm in the loop.

I've seen this before also a few times

Fwiw - very close game tonight but Wade/Lebron cover the spread in the final minute

Bulls will play hard as hell till the last second, that'll lead to more ft's and a slightly higher gap at the end

I took out right after the NCAA's. Would usually leave in $200, but took that out.

Still placed some season long baseball wagers. Have't placed a wager since one large UConn hedge...did a withdrawl the next day and haven't reloaded since.

Another huge mistake by Obama. I bet if Goldman Sachs got in on this, it would become legal quick!

I am wondering, have the banks put a stop to this now, because I was trying to fund my account and I couldn't and when I talked to a person, he said the issuing card would have to be called, could be for security.

Of Course, if you call and say I am doing something overseas, would they ask what for and what do you tell them.

To me, I think this all stupid, it's your money and if you want to wager with it, you should be able to, no problems, if you win, you will spend the money in America, are they that worried with all the money leaving America and if they are have Vegas set up a gambling site that people can use.

You can't really bet horses with a bookie because they generally have max payouts on gimmicks.

Western Union online is a fairly easy way to post with several online books using a credit/debit card.

It's already been stated in this thread, but do NOT play with money you can't afford to lose in the event an online book goes belly up, is seized by the US gov't and can't/won't pay out your balance. The Greek paid out even though they no longer work with US customers...not so sure a 5Dimes and others not nearly as strong would.

Find a local who uses a website. It's the best of both worlds. That's of course if bookies existed, which I'm sure they don't. Entertainment purposes only folks. Move along, nothing to see here.

Any of you old guys remember messenger services? In the 70s for a few years messenger services were legal. The concept was that you could make your bet there and they would deliver the bet to the track and place it on your behalf. These things popped up all over. Of course, they were great in theory. In practice most of the money never made it to the pools as guys just booked the bets. If they took a big hit, it wasn't uncommon to see them closed the next day with some poor bastard fruitlessly looking for his payout.

A friend of mine set up shop at North Avenue and Cicero. For the first few weeks he had just a few customers here and there. He could see that he wasn't even going to cover his rent. Then one Friday two women who worked at Helene Curtis came in and bet a ridiculous trifecta. My buddy figured it wasn't worth it for him to book the lousy three bucks and he was going to the track like he did every night anyway, so he made the bet. It came back and paid some giant 5 figure number. When he opened up the next day, the women were waiting out front. My buddy said, "I don't have the cash for you." Immediately they started to get angry, but then he handed them the ticket and said, "You've got to take this to Sportsman's Park to cash it. It's a signer. Looks like you hit a nice one. Congratulations." Well, from that day on his shop was loaded with gamblers, many from Helene Curtis. He went about two years and bought his house with cash. But then they shut the things down. He always used to say he just needed one more year to be set for life.

Of course the problem with not getting the account funded before today, was looking at Stricker at 29-1.

If you have a credit card (VISA) that allows for international purchases, you should be able to fund your account that way. I have heard people say that VentureOneRewards Credit Card (Capital One) works for international purchases, but haven't yet tried.

Netspend VISA cards allow deposits at the online books as well, and I probably going to jump on this option quickly with football approaching. I believe this costs $4 to purchase and there are some small fees for putting money onto the card.

I'm pretty sure that most books don't accept Netspend. There are ways to get money in, such as Western Union, but these books can be seized by the Dept. of Justice in a moment's notice. I'm still waiting for my money from Full Tilt Poker.

Yes, Western Union is an option, but I don't think it's very convenient. You don't want to leave a ton of money sitting in the books anymore, that's for sure.

I've heard some people say Netspend works, but I haven't tried it myself. It probably depends on the book.

Netspend worked until some time last year. At one time I had $ in many places offshore. Now I have none. Have to constantly find new strategies. They are out there, but offshore isn't viable any more.

Me too. Did finally get my money back from Matchbook thankfully. Need a new place to bet college basketball though. And I need them to let me bet the esoteric games like Coppin St/Florida A&M.
