We still need work on this line. These guys need to play with Jay and 1 set of downs? What's even the point?

The point is next week they play on Monday night Aug 22, then again on the 27th! these guys need serious on field time to make or break.

After watching game 1 though, I see Spencer going to Center and Garza back to RG.

LT, still open!

This guy likes the current O-line.

Such a failure by Angelo. There were several good, inexpensive OG on the market but he sets his sites on a lower tier center because Ruskell is whispering sweet nothings in his ear. The line would have looked good with Carimi, Garza, Kreutz, new OG and Webb

Webb? I know it was Merriman, but that was the most obvious issue.

Don't know how good they can still be or how injured they are, but aren't Alan Faneca, Damien Woody, and Nick Cole still available?

Lance Louis got beat several times. For that to be Webb's first game at LT I thought he was fine. Allowing the O-line to stay in there with Hanie at QB is fine with me. You have 3 guys at new positions and they've only been practicing for a couple weeks. They'll be fine.

'they'll be fine' ugh

I thought Spencer dominated on run plays, thus impressive. Garza at RG is where he came from and played well.

Let me also add the list of backup centers making $3M is a total of 1! If they dropped $3M on this guy to not play they deserve to be fired!

I think they are protecting him for now. Trying to teach him, get him better or adjusted. If they threw him in there and he sucked everybody would be all over them.

No No No...

1st play was a run to Hester, so no blocking assignment for Forte

2nd play Forte out on a short roll out. No blocking assignment.

3rd play Forte out wide, empty Backfield. No assignment

and he was out of the game

So your TV must not be in view to say he missed 2 assignments.

Whatever back was back there then, and probably 2nd or 3rd series. I apologize, I was watching game through a window while a band played outside, but there was no mistaking what I saw in terms of the back missing very badly.

If you check back, you will see whatever back was in there blowing it.

Chester Taylor, who moved himself to 3rd or 4th on the depth chart,as Bell outplayed him too.

He's watching imaginary TV again.

The OL is not the best, but it shouldn't be the worst. I'm not going to call it on one game for having Garza under center. He has only played there once before (right?) and they haven't had a lot of time to practice, so I'll give it another week at least... if week 2 looks as bad, then yes, something needs to change. Part of the reason they looked bad was that Hanie had a really bad game. Holding on to the ball too long as usual. There weren't a lot of 5 second sacks -- there were a few 8 second sacks though.

Barber ran behind the line well, but at that point I'm guessing both squads were on their backups. Nice to see him dominate over the backups -- would anticipate that means being at least OK against the first stringers.

Tice will make the line good.

Itll probably take some time. The line will be bad in the first few weeks but it will come together.

He's a second year player, you have to develop him. Put a veteran OG on one side and a TE on the other and he'd be fine.

garza has to move back to guard and sit williams or lewis down and move spencer in at center..i still feel this line will be much better than last year..kreutz is a hasbeen glad he is gone..plus i love the marion barber addition so expect to run the ball more and keep the defense from teeing off and rushing the q.b. like last season

CSNChicago.com says the Bears aren't wasting any time changing the offensive line after 1 preseason game. Veteran Bears' scribe and frequent "McNeil/Spiegel Show" guest John "Moon" Mullin has the goods here:
