Injuns are in town. Their prize at the trade deadline, Ubaldo Jimenez starts tonight. In 2 starts since being acquired in a trade from the Rockies, Jimenez has pitched 13 innings and allowed 8 runs (5 earned) on 12 hits and 4 walks. That isn't all that great. A sweep here puts the Sox into 2nd place in this division

Pitching matchups:

Gavin Floyd (10-10) vs. Ubaldo Jimenez (1-0) Tuesday; Mark Buehrle (10-5) vs. Fausto Carmona (5-12) Wednesday; Phil Humber (8-8) vs. Justin Masterson (9-7) Thursday.
All games 7:10 p.m.

They faced Ubaldo earlier in the season and though he pitched well it's good they have seen him before. Planet Gavin needs to be on his game.
Carmona is 7-5 against the Sox but has a 6.08 ERA so they should get to him but the Indians usually give Buehrle a hard time.
Masterson is a tough matchup for them.
Should be a fun series.

The lineup is in for the first of 3 with the Indians, but first, Anthony John Pierzynski's headed for the 15 day DL with what's now being described as a fractured left wrist, retroactive to Saturday. Donny Lucy was recalled from Triple "A" Charlotte and will back up Tyler Flowers while A.J.'s on the shelf for the first time in his career. Flowers gets the call behind the plate again tonight, although he should be batting 9th, not 7th in the following lineup vs. Ubaldo Jimenez:

1 Juan "Take that, Bernsy!" Pierre LF
30 Alejandro "Leading Off Next Year?" DeAza CF
14 Paul "Still DH-ing" Konerko DH
20 Carlos "Providing What You Know Who Doesn't" Quentin RF
10 Alexei "Ozzie Wants Me to Drive In Runs" Ramirez SS
32 Adam "Welcome Back, Strikeout Machine!" Dunn 1B
17 Tyler "You Should Be Batting 9th" Flowers C
15 Gordon "You Should Be Batting 7th" Beckham 2B
22 Brent "You Should Be Batting 8th" Morel 3B

Gavin "Scalp This!" Floyd toes the rubber for the White Sox in the first of 3 with the Indians this eve.

I think quietly Flowers will help with throwing out runners. He's right around 30% over the last two seasons. While his bat will not be as good as AJ, hopefully he can erase a few runners along the way.

One would think that the White Sox would be better off defensively with Flowers & Donny Lucy taking over the catching duties for the immediate future than what A.J. Pierzynski & Ramon Castro had not done. If I'm not mistaken, before both Sox catchers got injured and landed on the DL, opposing runners had a field day stealing bases on A.J. & Ramon.

Flowers has looked pretty good in his few starts this year. If AJ's injury is more than a 15 day thing I wonder if Kenny will make a move to get a more veteran backup.

According to The SCORE's David "Double Duty" Schuster, who is also doing "Scoreboard Updates" this afternoon from the ballpark, Anthony John's out "indefinitely", whatever that means...

That means they don't know when he'll be able to play. A broken hand in baseball is like blowing an ACL in football or something. Just ask Nomar.

It took a couple tests to find it so hopefully it's not that serious. If it is serious he can always call Roidface and ask him what he took to return from a broken wrist in 2 weeks.

call up the Reds and get Ramon Hernandez. He's in the last year of a 1 year contract for 3 million. It should cost nothing in terms of giving up talent.

48 Travis Hafner DH
41 Carlos Santana 1B

Nice first inning for Gavin. He's got a little giddy up on his fastball tonight.

Two groundballs up the middle that Beckham could have easily gotten to if they weren't playing him in the hole. Sometimes these assholes out think themselves.

Fuck you, Gavin. Cruise for 3 innings while your offense gives you 5 runs and then you give it right back. Small game Gavin.
