I believe that is the suburban location for a place that originated in Chicago.

I'm really not sure if there is a nexus. The two Il Forno's Pizza & Pasta joints in HP and Highwood are certainly related and may have originated in the city. This one is just too different. But if it is related, I would certainly love to know where is the original because I really like their pie.

I spent my less cynical years down the street from there. No, never met Bernstein.

Coach here's the info...
they were owned by the same guy, he sold them to his managers...one included my mom. She owns the one in Deerfield, which in my biased opinion is better than the one in hp, the original does not exist anymore, it used to be on the north side...and another point from an earlier post Kaplan lives in the area, he used to live right across the st. from the deerfield one, i would deliver it, but he still lives in the area.

Cool. I'm done shilling for my the family pizzeria now. I'm actually going home this weekend and I'm looking forward to eating there more than any other reason (my wife's baby shower...yup my boys can swim).

Thanks for the compliments. I'm sure that Il-forno pizza (750 Osterman, Deerfield Illinois) loves any free publicity it can get.
speaking of deerfield...
i used to go to bart's as well...whenever i go home i stop in and say hello. I miss the Chinese restaurant that was next door, before they changed the downtown area.

This might sound crazy, but I enjoy a regular pan pepperoni from Pizza Hut. Excellent crust.

For some reason I had a craving for their breadsticks a while back, and ordered a pizza with the breadsticks. Since then I've had no craving whatsoever for anything Pizza Hut. But it did take me back to when I was a kid, and we'd go to pizza hut and i'd get one of those orange sponge basketball & hoop sets to take home. i'd always break them though...

Pizza Hut is always great but has anyone tried the Garlic Bread Pizza from Dominos? No sauce. . .it's fantastic.

Anyone here (DEP??) had Palermo's (on 95th just past Cicero?)?? I have heard raves for the thin crust, but I have never been able to convince the wife to head that way for a sit down meal.

Palermo's is good. I was always a big fan along with Barroco's.

Stefano's right by my place is pretty damn good, moreso for deep dish, but the thin is good too. The sauce is tangier/spicier, which I prefer. However, I wish they'd cook the the thin crust pizza longer, I like my cheese well-done.

I'm a regular with Palermo's. Their pizza sauce is the some of the best I have ever tasted. I prefer the deep dish over the thin crust. The garlic bread is terrible, however.

Top choices...

1) Palermo's thin crust(particularly the one in Frankfort)

2) Aurileo's thin crust (when they make it right - now and then, it will taste funny)

3) Giordanno's stuffed crust

4) Nancy's stuffed crust

5) Nancy's thin crust (when crunchy)

6) Domino's

* Pizza Hut sucks. Made the mistake of asking my girlfriend out at the one in Tinley four years ago. Of course, since that's where I asked her out, that place is "special" to her and wants to eat there occassinally (average, once or twice a year).

Lous
Barnabys
Nancys
Joe's Pizza on Wise Road in Schaumburg

in that order.

To the point that Barnaby's is a mob front that someone made earlier, I used to work at the one in Schaumburg in high school(I actually worked at Lou's at one point too in HS) and the owner is a guy named Tom Modello who is an old bald italian guy that for sure has MAFIA written all over him. At one of the Xmas parties he referred to us all as his family, and used alot of italian magia lingo. There may be some validity to that statement.

City guys

La Gondola in the shopping center on Wellington and Ashalnd. Only 5 Tables, great delivery service

Just gets it done with a solid pizza. Nothing spectacular, but Sausage pizza the way it is suppossed to be done,

Everyone I have turned on to this place agrees. Just a really good pizza!

And the all time sleeper- Chili Mac on Broadway! dated a girl who lived right by it. Told her I was a Pizza Afficinado, and I did not expect much, but it was a solid 7.5!

yes, Lou's still rules!

La Gondola was a white table cloth fine dining italian restarraunt on the NE corner of Montana and Ashland, I think they opened in the 60's.

in the early 90's, I lived on Greenview and Montana , thus one night ordered a pizza for pickup. Walked down the street and walked inside to pickup my order and was instructed to walk around to the side door for Pizza.

Additionally I was told by the pissed of old italian hostess (Guessing the owner) that they also don't serve Pizza in the dining room, so don't think about ever coming here to eat. (Feel good comments)

I walk around the side and it the Son, is making the pizzas and taking the cash. So you can see the Son wanted to make Pizzas and the True Italian mom wasn't in favor of it.

The Pizza was really good, not expensive, quick and right by me, so I always ordered from there.

I think the dine in, old style, was dieing and the delivery Pizza business was picking up and they sold the building to a Developer, so now Condos are on the site and they moved into the Shopping center. Then the area behind the Jewel developed and the business picked up.

So now the guy has 5 tables and I think 5 delivery guys, please constant pick up business.

Very good italian food as well.

pizza_Place: Suparosa on Central between Irving and Montrose. Forget about the rest!!!
Poretta's on Central a block north of Addison. The best thin crust I have ever had. My fav, the beef/sausage/green pepper. Loaded with tons of all three. You guys on the north/northwest side who have never tried this place are in for a treat. Without a doubt the best and at reasonable prices.
