The Holmes incident was an example of a lack of accountability because, while he was held accountable for his statement, people here were not accountable for taking it too far. The guy did a little puffing about his resume. O.K. The bullshit was called out on him and he recieved his abuse. However, the guy could not post again without people referring to the statement.

It would be like you referring to Neopolitan pizza, or someone else referring to Eduardo Perez being lefthander before responding to any of my posts. It became tiresome and I don't blame him for leaving.

Torch, his board name was simply "Holmes". It was around February of 05 when he talked about his 4 breaking stories from Bears camp in 04. The Guy who I refer to as "The Many Names Guy" called him out on it and he never responded. I think if you go back you might be able to catch some of the flaming going on....my favorite was someone telling him that he had all of Black History Month to give us the 4 breaking stories..LOL!

Since i don't listen to Bernstein as often as I used to, I have to base my thoughts on what I see on this board.

First, if the score wants to pay me a salary for my opinion, I will gladly give my name, phone number, etc. However, until that time or when hell freezes over, I am enigma.

As long as someone is giving an OPINION on an messageboard, then I don't see why that someone should be held accountable. It is a messageboard, people spout off opinions and ideas. If someone makes a prediction that goes wrong, big deal.

Now if someone on a messageboard calls themselves an insider or makes statements which are supposed to be facts, then yes, I wouldn't mind having a name. But it seems to me that most of this stuff on this board deal with opinions, likes and dislikes which can be neither right or wrong (except that Salisbury is a douchbag, can't argue that).

I agree with Beardown, Bernstein and North's problem is that they are not in control, they can't shout down or get the last word on a messageboard like they can on their show.

I can't use my real name since I would be fired by the Score for giving you inside information; I also wouldn't my future political career to be derailed by my ramblings here. And you can call or write Bernstein to contact him? Fat chance. You think they sit & listen to an hour of dubious ramblings every day? You think they read an hour of emails every day? No way Jose. As I recall, Larry didn't post again after he was challenged. People only called him out in an obsessive manner after it became evident he had run from a fight because he couldn't prove his claim.

Whatever the case, though, it seems to me that accountability--at least in the world of sports talk radio--has little to do with anonymity or known identity. As Beardown correctly suggested, accountability arises when individuals can interact as equals. On the phone lines at the Score, such interaction is impossible. This message board is obviously a different story. The Score hosts can't control this discursive space, are subject to the same kind of criticism here that they routinely offer on their broadcasts, and resent this fact. It's not the chaotic lawlessness of the internet that they fear; rather, it's the fact that we refuse to accept their own lack of standards, professionalism and competence that upsets them.

The funny thing is that when the Score came on the air they were criticizing the esablishment that was the Pro teams in town.

Now, after the Score has advanced from the "Mom and Pop" operation that they once were to high paid corporate CBS workers, they are now on the defensive against this board.

A board that does nothing different then what they do every day. I find that ironic.

B&B shout down people with different thoughts. People who call them often aren't prepared or are nervous and can't argue properly. B&B jump on a simple slip and shout them down. I get upset when callers are dumb and can't argue properly. That's fine. B&B are trying to entertain with comedy. That's what's good about this board. People can think of their thoughts and express them.

If they do it wrongly someone will call them and they can better express their points with another post. There is no hang-up here.

99% of this board is opinon and calling out hosts for misinformation. Something that the Score runs a promo for "We are the voice of the fan."

The same reason they champion their station is the same reason they hate this board. I find it funny that all of them, especially Bernsie, don't realize that.

So all they can rip is Cubs or Wolves! - AND - Remember the Mitch Rosen/Jerry Reinsdorf memo that Sox Park or Comiskey or The Cell are banned from the airwaves? They must say U.S. Cellular Field. No nicknames. No slang.

The Score also established a foothold in Chicago sports culture by attacking the print media. Many hosts portrayed sports radio as an insurgent media whose raison d'etre it was to bring the truth to Chicago sports fans, who had been misinformed by a duplicitous and corrupt newspaper culture. Print journalists, in turn, responded by attacking sports talk hosts as irresponsible blowhards who lacked integrity and accountability. Members of the print media, it seems, resented sports radio's challenge to their "authority" as much as sports radio resents the internet's challenge to its authority.

Unfortunately, there's still the perception of "Internet People" being a bunch of unemployed losers typing insults on our parents' computers. I'm not exactly sure why that perception exists but I heard Tony Kornhole...um...Kornheiser allude to "Internet People" on PTI yesterday. He mentioned the whole losers sitting in our parents' basements thing while Wilbon defended the 'Net. Unfortunately, that's what they think of us.

I wish I was still in my parents basement. My parents have a much nicer basement.

The vast majority of the people I know use the internet and have at least a passing familiarity with internet message boards. Even my mom has read some web forums. Further, given the energy the Score has expended to promote its own web content and streaming capability, I wouldn't think it's in the station's best interests for its hosts to marginalize web users as a class of mentally deranged and morally depraved people. Come to think of it, that description more accurately fits many of the hosts themselves.

More people read internet boards and forums than listen to sports talk radio. My mother is 82 and she reads a board on subjects appropriate to her. 95% of kids under 21 are reading them. Nearly every guy I know reads one or another. When these guys try to insult people who read and write on boards, they are just marginalizing themselves as being horribly out of touch with the vast majority of their listeners and prospective listeners.
