TNA News: Kurt Angle's BAC level at time of arrest, Angle issues statement on erratic driving
By James Caldwell, Torch assistant editor
TNA World Hvt. champion Kurt Angle's blood alcohol content was 0.06 at the time of his arrest in Virginia early Sunday morning. The state's legal limit is 0.08.
TMZ obtained a police document showing Angle's BAC at the time of arrest. Angle also released a statement saying, "I did not believe my driving behavior was reckless or otherwise improper.
"I fully cooperated with the officer who clearly recognized me while performing his standard procedures. Subsequent to the stop, I was asked to submit to a breathalyzer test and passed. I do not believe that I broke any laws and will be entering a plea of not guilty in response to any pending charges."
Regarding the police tip from another driver that Angle was driving erratically on I-66, Angle claimed, "I was returning from an Impact Wrestling show in an unfamiliar place, late at night, and was trying to find the exit for my hotel."
Caldwell's Analysis:
Again, a charge of driving under the influence is not limited to alcohol levels. It can also include the presence of a foreign substance or a substance mixed with alcohol. Angle (and his attorney on Sunday) are trying to frame a p.r. response based on the "Angle wasn't legally drunk" defense, but it does not invalidate the charge.
