I don't think Quinn is in the sexy business, though. That's a strike against him right there.

But, Doug what Nas is saying, that even with some of the negative backlash, most draft experts predict he'll go in at least the Top 10...which is WAY too high.

the purpose of this thread was to discuss whether or not The Bears should do this deal (if offered).

Half of these posts deserve the damn shotgun!

and i'm suggesting that while he's not a #1 pick in this draft, he's certainly worthy of top 8.

let's think about Leinart for a second. if he would've come out as a jr. he'd been #1. what in a year was different? he didn't lose a step from age 21 to age 22....

I would like to see them make this deal or something like it. Maybe Briggs and #37 for #6 and a 6th rounder.

I think it's funny that Washington is the team. Eerily similar to Wilbur Marshall...

You are being generous. I skipped from half way down the first page to your post without reading a full post.

In my opinion this is an acceptable deal but I would try to negotiate a little something better.

I loved the #37 and Briggs suggestion.

For those wanting Johnson (and I am one of them) the Lions have made it widely known that their pick is available. I would think JA could figure out a trade to move from 6 to 2 where Johnson should be available.

If Brady Quinn had come out last year, he would have been the 4th QB taken in the draft, which means middle of the first round.

He didn't have that much of a better season last season than he did as a junior and some could argue that it was worse.

He'll be a decent QB but I never saw anything about him that said superstar, besides the fact that he was able to get the ball to receivers that were much better than the competition.

Look at all the top level talent he had on that offense. He will have his whole receiving core drafted and they will all get playing time(besides Jeff S. who is playing baseball), along with anthony fasano and maurice stovall who were drafted after his junior season.

The only halfway decent defenses he played against were Michigan, USC, and LSU and he didn't look good against them. In the game against Purdue, our QB threw for more yards than him, and our defense was atrocious last year.

Brady Quinn may be good, but if he played for any other school he would be at best a late first round selection. Sometimes those players work out, sometimes they don't.

6 to 2 is a costly jump. I would love to have CJ, but probably not if it means having a Ditka draft and heading home for the weekend 1 hour into the draft. Then again, you could spread the damage over this year and next.

I don't think they should give up their 1st round pick and Briggs.

Who would the Bears want to take at #6? This doesn't seem to be a great class.

#6 would get you Laron Landry or Amobi Okeye. Okeye was built to play in Lovie's system and might very well end up being better than Tommie Harris. Imagine what you could do with those two guys playing DT for your team. Remember how good the Bears D was in the first 1/3 of the season when Harris was playing out of his mind. Multiply that by 2.

Don't you think we're solid at DL this coming year already?

That's kind of what I thought and the Bears are setting themselves up to be more offense heavy in the draft.

Did anybody catch this article?
http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football ... 27.article

Drew Rosenhaus, Briggs' agent, said Monday at the NFL owners meetings that his client will line up for the Bears next season -- but only on a limited basis if the team refuses to remove the franchise tag it put on the linebacker. Rosenhaus said Briggs would sit out the first 10 games, then return for the final six to accrue a played season under league rules.

The maneuver apparently is an attempt to avoid sitting out the season for no pay and allowing the Bears to have the right to use the franchise tag on Briggs for two more seasons.

''That is the plan, come back and play the last six games of the season,'' Rosenhaus said.

Franchise-tag rules changed with the new collective bargaining agreement signed last year. Teams can use the tag on the same player for two seasons while paying him the average of the top five salaries at his position. That number is $7.2 million in 2007. If a team uses the tag for a third season, the player must be paid the average of the top five salaries in the league, regardless of position.

If Briggs doesn't sign the tender offer and sits out a season, as he threatened, then the clock on the tag starts all over again. By coming in for the final six games, 2007 would count as one season with a tag. The downside is Briggs would receive only the prorated amount of the $7.2 million spread out over the 17-week season.

''After 10 games, he'll come in,'' Rosenhaus said. ''We're going to limit our injury risk as much as possible.''

you're right. it was a little worse. only a 146QB rating vs. a 158 rating....how horrible. 500 pass yds. less....CRAP I SAY! 1.5 yards less passing per attempt and only 5 TD's more in 06. he should be a 6th rounder for that kind of drop off...

ND's pass defense is equally atrocious.
Quinn's stats against Purdue last year:
316yards 76.3% 2TD's 0INT's 163.54Rating.
i'll take that every game...

maybe i'm a little biased. i can admit that. i watched every game he played in college....
still, he'll be a fucking stud in the nfl.
more so than guys drafted years before him and years after him.

St. Patty's day was ten days ago, Doug. Does that leftover green beer still taste all right? I see it still has its kick.
