Smart

The Big East hasn't been worth a damn in football since The U left.

I am a big Syracuse fan and I agree it makes sense for football but its terrible for bball. The Big East tournament in the garden is what college basketball is all about and the rivalries with Georgetown and UConn are second to none. Now I am going to have to watch Coach K dismantle my team with a bunch of unathletic white dudes 2 times a year. Pass.

That was my thought as well Phil. Great for football, bad for basketball.

Although maybe they know something about the future of the Big East. TCU President is making noise about being worried about the health of the conference and may not join.

Yeah the big east is in trouble. Football is where the real money is but Syracuse is going to have to get their program back on track unless they just want to get continually dick punched by FSU, Virginia Tech, and the like over and over again. Upset special for tonight the Cuse will only lose by 3 TD's to USC. Book it.

That's so surprising, especially considering the strength of the conference just a few years ago.

For the last few years at least Syracuse and Pitt have had a very good run in the Big East in basketball. It will be interesting to see Syracuse and Pitt match up with the power teams of that conference like Duke and North Carolina on a consistent basis.

ESPN is reporting that the ACC has accepted them and could make an announcement tommorow.

More and more we are heading to 4 Super Conferences, just wondering where everybody ends up.

Nobody talks about basketball in regards to all of this, football brings the money, but like Phil Mccracken put about the Big East tournament and rivalries, this was a big blow to basketball. Especially Sryacuse vs Uconn or Georgetown and even St. Johns.

On a side note, I wonder if ESPN pulls out Dick Vitale this week to talk about Syracuse leaving the Big East, since they have more the tradition with the Big East, I feel College Basketball is in bad shape and with all these moves, it could be worse with some of the tradition starting to leave. I do like watching Duke-North Carolina in basketball, but just think if Carolina left the ACC.

It is reported that Syracuse and Pitt have joined the ACC, just don't know when from what I read, I would say next year.

Also, look for Rutgers and UConn as the next teams to leave.

Rumor has it that the TCU president is looking into ways to back out of the move. Honestly, if BYU gets back into the MWC, it's a better conference than the Big Least, at least for football which as we all know is what really matters.

To add to the expansion talk, get ready to say good bye to the Big 12 if the latest report is true and it probably will be, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech to the Pac 12.

This conference expansion is getting ridiculous.

Although i do find it funny that these greedy BCS conferences are killing each other off.

Saw Rutgers is talking to the Big 10 and ACC. I actually don't expect the Big 10 to do anything. But if the Big 10 takes them - who's 14? Mizzou? Cinci? Louisviile?

Now theres a report on collegefootballtalk.com, that West Virginia wants to join the SEC and the SEC wants them, basically so far that the paperwork's been sent.

That is a perfect group of subhumans to fit into the SEC fanbase.

So the Big 12 is going away, maybe followed by the Big East. Just divide everyone up into 4 conferences and be done with it.

In the end, the biggest surprise to me in all this was the ACC going after teams. They always seemed 'happy' with the way things were after the expanded several years ago.

It would get us closer to a National Playoff, or at the very least, leave us with 2 teams feeling butthurt about not playing for the National Championship instead of the seemingly usual 8.

I think the big question, does Notre Dame join one of these conferences or stay independent.

If we get to a point where it's 4 super conferences, I don't think they have a choice.

UCONN is reportedly looking into joining the ACC, based on a report I saw over the weekend. The thing about Syracuse & Pittsburgh joining the ACC is that it came on the same weekend that the man who started the Big East Conference, Commissioner Dave Gavitt, passed away. Tony Barnhart, the longtime Atlanta Journal-Constitution scribe now with CBS Sports, said at halftime of the Tennessee/Florida football game that the Big East is about to "go out of business", shortly after host Tim Brando announced the Gavitt death.

Wow, Uconn? Conference affiliation has everything to do with football. And while UConn has made great strides, they aren't at the level which would garner interest from the ACC, particularly since there are too many other schools that seem to be itching to join. That's just my crappy 2 cents.

Yeah, the ACC wants top level teams like NU.

It's funny, or maybe sad, that " football greed" is killing a top football conference (big 12). Of course, my affiliation is with Iowa State, so maybe I shouldn't be worried about the whole "top football" thing.

I find it funny that teams left for the Pac 10 to avoid Texas and now they are right back with them. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if in less than ten years these super conferences breakup. Teams will become disgruntled for various reasons.

I would also like to know when Depaul joins the Horizon league?

All this conference hopping is bad for college football. Conferences should be based on geography to foster rivalries & to help control travel costs & time spent traveling.
The NCAA should step in & control this situation because it is completely out of hand.
