2 weeks ago everyone thought the playoffs were already set. Now we have some teams struggling and others making a run. The Angels are 2.5 games back of the Rangers, the Rays are 3.5 games back in the AL wildcard and the Cardinals are 4.5 games back in the NL wildcard. Should make for a fun last couple weeks.

The Angels/Rangers and Rays/Red Sox still have a head-to-head series left.

It's never over til it's over.

Lets go Braves. You can not let Larussa and his team of mostly assholes take the wildcard from you.

Tampa wins again. The lead is down to 3 games and the Rays just called up Matt Moore, the #1 pitching prospect in baseball. This is getting real.

Be ready for the next wildcard entries. Bud looking for more interest in Sept. NFL killing MLB ratings.

It is getting real, Keyser, with the Rays. They were written off a few weeks ago with the Red Sox & Yankees seemingly more interested in the AL East title than the AL Wildcard. The Rays & Red Sox rematch this weekend in Boston, and it would be quite a story if Joe Maddon's guys find a way to take away something that appeared to be going to either Boston or the Bronx.

The Rays started tonights 4 game series against the Red Sox 4 games back and are up big in game 1 (9-1). It's back down to a 3 game lead.

Now the question is does that set the tone for the series. The Rays know that have to win 3 of 4 to stand a chance, and that was a ass whooping tonight.

I think the tone for this series has been set for a while now, Hawger. The Red Sox have been leaking oil and are limping to the finish line. Their pitching staff is devastated and even that lineup can't score enough runs and now they have to try to do it against the best rotation in the American League. Looks like the Sawx are going down.

yeah but it's not like the Rays are playing well having gone 4-6 over the last 10 during this big playoff push

Tigers will represent the AL in the World Series...book it.

I don't think the Tigers can beat Texas.

That Rays/Red Sox series is a lot more interesting after Tampa won last night 9-2 to cut Boston's once big lead to just 3 games in the AL Wildcard. The pitching matchup tonight has James Shields for the Rays & Josh Beckett for the Red Sox at 6:05p (CT) at Fenway. These two teams are also "MLB on FOX's" feature game tomorrow at 3:10p. Wouldn't be it something if the Rays swept this series and left Boston possibly with a 1-game lead?

Watching recent Red Sox baseball is good for the heart.

Unfortunately, that might be ending. This is their schedule going forth:

3 with Baltimore at home
3 at New York
4 at Baltimore

The Rays have:

4 at New York
3 with Toronto at home
3 with New York at home

Bleak.

The Yankees provide the opposition for the Rays in 7 of the last 10 games of the Rays' season, while the Red Sox face the Orioles in 7 of the last 10. Needless to say, while the Yankees appear to have clear sailing towards the AL East title, they will have a huge say in determining the AL Wildcard. That said, you'd think the Red Sox would have the edge schedule-wise in hanging onto the Wildcard. Here's something else to consider. Boston is ONLY 4-13 in September going into a matinee today with the O's at Fenway.

Baahston down 5-1 at the moment. Two of those Baltimore runs can be directly attributed to comical defense on back to back to back plays by the left fielder McDonald. Dropped a popup and a lazy fly and followed those up with a poorly timed leap on another catchable ball. Of course, he leads off the next half inning with a solo shot.

He may be a candidate for AL MVP, but Red Sox 1B Adrian Gonzalez is hurting. FOXSports.com's bow-tie wearing Ken Rosenthal reported during the Rays/Red Sox game on the "MLB on FOX" Saturday afternoon that Gonzalez's surgically-repaired shoulder is tiring. As a result, Gonzalez appears to have lost some of his power of late.

It's now a game and a half lead for the fading Red Sox in the AL Wildcard. They lost the first game of their day-night DH to the Orioles this afternoon 6-5 with Game 2 tonight at Fenway. Baltimore starts Brian Matusz & Boston starts John Lackey in the nightcap at 6:10p this eve. That lead could be 1/2 game if the O's take Game 2.

It would be mathematically impossible for Boston to have a one-half (1/2) game lead over Tampa Bay after today's action.

The Red Sox lost game one 6-5 and were up 11-5 in game two but the lead is now 11-9 in the bottom of the 6th. If they somehow manage to blow this second game the Rays would be 1 game back and tied in the loss column.

The Cards won tonight while the Braves lost. The Cards are now 2.5 games back in the NL wildcard.

I stand corrected. Despite splitting their day-night DH, the Red Sox maintained their 2 game AL Wildcard lead over the Rays following their 18-9 beatdown of the Orioles in Game 2 last night.

The Rays & Yankees do play a split DH tomorrow in the Bronx. Wade Davis & Ivan Nova start the 4 game set at Yankee Stadium tonight.

Dateline Tuesday, September 20, 2011 - The Commonwealth: Despite losing again to the lowly Baltimore Orioles, the Red Sox maintained their slim two (2) game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays thanks to The Glorious New York Yankees' victory over Tampa Bay.

The Yankees and Rays are playing a split DH today in the Bronx. New York's magic number is 3 to claim the AL East, and a split of their twinbill today could clinch a playoff spot for the Yanks. Right now, the Rays lead 2-1 in the top 4th in Game 1. The Drew Carey-looking Joe Maddon starts Jeremy Hellickson in Game 2 tonight vs. the Yankees' lefty C.C. Sabathia. Tampa Bay starts the day 2 games behind the Red Sox in the AL Wildcard derby.

The Glorious New York Yankees: 4
Tampa Bay: 2

Yet another favor for the Red Sox! I love that the Red Sox fans have to root for The Glorious New York Yankees! I am delirious with glee.

Red Sox lose again. That's 3-4 they dropped against the hapless O's. Rays and Yanks tied at 2 in the 8th.
