I don't think that 4 mega-conferences is the goal. It could be the side effect mostly from the Big 12/Big East leftovers not really being wanted by anyone else.

Ultimately, the Big 12 is weak because of the greed of Texas and the Big East is weak because they succumb to Notre Dame and they have basketball only schools. The other four conferences are significantly stronger and likely always will be because they have sustainable models.

I agree with your assessment, but I think the "four superconferences is inevitable" line has always been more media storyline than truth. We will see.

Totals matter. But denominators matter too. Suddenly the ACC has two more mouths to feed. Good luck with that. I know for a fact that there is some cold feet in the SEC about A&M right now.

I think A&M will bring value. Big fan base in a big state. The tougher thing is who will be team 14. Missouri + A&M may at best be a move that keeps them at the same level as I don't see that expanding the revenue more than what they end up taking.

That's why the Big Ten has been really smart. Notre Dame, and potentially Rutgers are the only two schools that could expand the revenue enough to make the other 12 teams more money.

So do you think that is the direction this ultimately goes for the Big 10? Add Notre Dame and Rutgers and stay at 14 teams?

No. I don't see Notre Dame jumping into a conference until the SEC and Pac 12 have 16 teams and conference affiliation seems inevitable.

Something tells me that Delany likes the home run potential of Rutgers, but he's less high on the idea of Rutgers and Maryland/Connecticut/Missouri making a major difference.

Rutgers truly is the sleeping giant of college football. One of the best high school football states, close to the biggest market in the country, good academics, and a geographical match.

I think Delaney stands firm right now. Any move to bring in two schools could be seen as reactionary and everything to date for the Big Ten has been calculated.

Yeah I see the point you are making. But wouldn't adding say Notre Dame and Rutgers be pretty calculated? As Brick as pointed out they both will bring in a lot of revenue.

I still don't envision ND going to a conference unless they absolutely have to. They are not going anywhere at the current time. As for Rutgers, I still debate how much of New York that will bring in. Yes, I agree they make the most sense in terms of academics and location, but unless ND is coming, Rutgers isnt
