Sox certainly have a lot of bad contracts. So do a lot of other teams. I know it may seem crazy but I am bullish on Peavey being productive next year and I believe he is only guaranteed through the end of next year so I would keep him.

Are there any matches out there of bad contracts that might fill Sox needs and move Rios or Dunn?

There would have to be some money relief sent by the Cubs as Soriano is making more but I believe both contracts are up at the same time.

I think the Red Sox are emotionally vulnerable right now. If they would send back some money with it I'd like Dunn for Crawford. At first blush you'd think that would be stupid of the Red Sox but that Crawford contract is crazy and for 6 more years.

Dunn really sucked this year but I 1) cannot believe his skills would have diminished this badly in one year and 2) cannot believe that he could be the worst player in the game.

Just like Peavy, I think he bounces back to at least .240 with upper 20s HR. Nothing great but light years ahead of where he was.

Rios is the dog that needs to move. He may bounce back some but that contract seems to go on forever.

It is crazy. I am done with that clown. I hope like hell that he can contribute but he has shown me anything up to this point. That trade was a bigger clusterfuck than the Rios claim.

Crawford makes 20 million per year for the next six years. Rios and Dunn look like comparative bargains next to that. At their best, might not even be the guy you'd want. That contract was just like the Torii Hunter one a couple of years ago where it was just shockingly high (the Yankees really pushed that contract up).

I'm completely on board with this. He would be fine at first. He is tall as hell so when Castro launches one he can just reach up and snag it. Castro may very well never play short again on a full time basis either. If he were at 3rd he would have far less to concentrate on so he could focus on making a good throw.

Actually-YES! The kind of injury strasburg had to his elbow which required Tommy John surgery is now thought of almost as a good thing. It may seem crazy, but over 80% of the pitchers who had this surgery throw harder than they did after recovery from the injury. In 2003 USA Today reported that 75 of 700 MLB pitchers had undergone this surgery. Thats 1 in 9 pitchers. the surgery is commonplace. The majority have better success after this procedure (Ulnar Collateral Ligament Reconstruction). Chris Carpenter, Adam Wainwright, Edison Volquez, Randy Wolf, John Smoltz, Ryan Dempster, Kerry Wood and Tim Hudson are just a few of the pitchers that had the ulnar surgery. Peavy however, is coming over a Lat surgery and there is no way of knowing if he will ever recover and go back to the level of performance he was at previously. His velocity is lower and he seemed last season to have decreased stamina. Apples and Oranges.

Peavy usually started games well and lost it about the 4th inning. That is an indication of a stamina issue just as you indicated. If stamina is the issue that is easily fixed and a nearly identical issue to post TJ surgery.
