That's true but over the past 3 seasons Cutler is personally responsible for 6 or 7 defeats.

Later in the column, though, Biggs says "They (Bears) reached the NFC Championship game last year, but crediting Cutler for guiding them would be akin to giving Grossman equal props for the team reaching the Super Bowl in 2006."

So on one hand look at the starting record of Cutler vs the more successful Orton and Grossman, but on the other hand don't credit Cutler for the Bears run to the NFC Championship last year? So which is it. Is the won loss record important for the QB or not?

They need some real wide receivers before the guy can be fairly judged although IMO he is not an elite QB at all.

I loved the Cutler acquisition, but he is average at best...a mediocre QB. He doesn't see or read the field well, his ball sails because his mechanics are screwed up, & he doesn't make plays. Other than that he's great.

No, they didn't. WR and OL have been a problem for this team for quite some time. That's what hurt the SB team.

Rex and Kyle had to endure a crappy OL and WR corp. Cutler has a great safety valve in Forte who he can dump off too.

Cutler is in the bottom half of QBs in the league. I bet if you gave GMs a choice of Cutler or their QB, there might be 7 or 8 that would take Cutler.

A Big Pro Bowl reciever would be nice, but I think even more of a factor is the system.

Cutler's best attribute, throwing on the run, is pretty much eliminated in this offense.

What I think is most important to consider here, is that the Bears are not going to have access to a QB of a caliber near Jay, let alone better.

And he is still the best the organization has ever seen.



Does that mean anything? Probably not. But the Bears should be focusing on improving the players around him as that is all that matters.

Kramer had one great year '95, the best I have seen from a Bear QB. But he was also benched in his first year in favor of Steve Walsh, missed most of his third year because of injury and threw only two more TDs than INTs his last two years.

And going back to his best season in '95 Kramer was only sacked 15 times that year and in Jeff Graham and Curtis Conway had two receivers much better than anything Cutler has now. And in close games that year, I remember at least a couple games where Kramer failed late in the game.

2006 wasn't so good for him, though.

Look at the QBs in the league... Outside of Brady, Rodgers, Brees and maybe Rivers, Jay isn't that far behind. Take a peak at the Ravens/Jets game for a couple of really average QBs.

He's not what he should be right now. He wasn't terrible today, wasn't great, but I expect more from him.

What about Orton, Big Rape, Stafford, Schaub, Fitzpatrick?

Even when the protection is good, Jay doesn't look comfortable & he is not accurate. The days of expecting Jay to be a tier 1 QB are over. Hes in the middle of the pack, closer to Kyle & Rex than he is to Aaron & Tom.
