Challenge #1 - October 3, 2011
==============================Welcome to the first contest of the 2nd season of CSFMB Survivor. Redneckmommy is on an excused absence and will have sjboyd send in picks on her behalf for this first contest.
This contest will occur on Wednesday, October 5th. Entries are due to the
CSFMBSurvivor@gmail.com email address by 5 PM (possibly 8:30 PM -- I'll let you know tomorrow.) Remember that only entries from the team captain or designee will count, and you can enter multiple times but only your most recent entry before the deadline will count.
This challenge will be about MLB baseball. We will definitely have one game, and hopefully two to follow this Wednesday, when the National League gets down to business. The Phillies will take on the Cardinals in the early game (5PM) and the Brewers will be at the D-Backs for the late game (8:30 PM.)
You have eight players to pick. The players cannot be duplicated on your entry, and only Wednesday's statistics will count. Pick four hitters and four pitchers. The four hitters are only eligible to get points in the hitting categories, and likewise, pitchers will only be eligible for points in the pitching categories.
For each hit, RBI, run and stolen base your hitters get you will get one point. For each win, strikeout, hold or save, and inning pitched you will get one point for your pitcher.
Each of your eight players should be assigned to one of those stats. If the player accumulates points in that stat, you will get double that amount. For example, if I have Ryan Braun listed as my RBI guy and he gets 2 hits, 1 run, 3 RBI, and 0 SBs, I would get a total of 9 points (2+1+3*2=9.)
The team with the highest point total will pass to the next round unscathed, while the team with the lower point total will need to vote someone out.
If you participated or followed last season's game, you'll be familiar with advantage options. When one team (or player) wins a challenge, they are typically given a choice of advantages going into the next challenge. Since this is the first challenge, I will let both teams choose one advantage. With your submission, designate which challenge you opt to take and any additional information required.
- Option A - Secret Blacklist - Designate one player. If either team chooses that player, they will earn no points from him for this challenge. That's right, neither of the teams will be able to earn points from that player.
- Option B - Kill the Bonus - Designate one scoring category. Neither team will be eligible for any bonus points from that slot. Choose Ks, and if their K guy hangs 11, they are only getting 11 points, not 22.
- Option C - Show me the Money - Why mess around with the scoring? Choose this option and you'll get a 2.5 point bonus.
You'll also know that we require tiebreakers in the event that the scores end up tied. Please remember to submit these along with your entry.
- Tiebreaker 1 - Winner of Phillies/Cardinals game
- Tiebreaker 2 - Highest Jersey Number to hit a home run (Price is Right rules apply)
- Tiebreaker 3 - Number of pitches thrown by Cardinals pitch staff (Price is Right rules apply)
Now huddle up with your team members and come up with a strategy that is sure to pay off. Remember that the winning team will be immune and have an advantage in the next contest!
