I never heard any Sox fans longing for Ventura to be the team's manager.

My guess is that the vast majority of Sox fans will regard this as a meatball hire.

The potential upside of this selection is that Ventura will perform so poorly that Kenny will be held responsible and thus his exodus from the organization will be hastened.

I don't think so, Jimmy. Robin was originally hired to scout the White Sox minor league system earlier this year. Needless to say, I'm shocked. There were 2 names I kept hearing. One of them was Dave Martinez, the Rays' bench coach perceived as the front runner. The other was Sandy Alomar, Jr., the former White Sox & Indians catcher turned Cleveland first base coach. This is clearly out of left field...
