Its very noticeable now this year with the rule change.

I know everyone said he was ridiculous and awesome and a game changer, but more than the TD's the average starting spot was unbelievable.

Not sure where it would rank all time. But im starting to think that Hester probably meant EVEN MORE to this team than I previously thought

I mean, I knew the field position mattered and so did most fans but I dont think we gave that as much credit as it deserved.

This rule has made Hester just an average to below average reciever who occasionally breaks a KR

Fuck

The guy is the best return man in the history of the League.
When he returns punts and kickoffs for TDs and the Defense scores, the Bears have good seasons and mask the fact that their offense has historically been non existent.

As a returner and a true play making #1 receiver it would be a mistake to undervalue him.

If he could be traded for a high draft pick, I would do it.

Dude, with this rule he's worth a lot less and even more underpaid.

I hate the new kickoff placement. Those 5 yards have made a real difference. However, I have to wonder whether that will change as the weather turns colder. The ball will not travel deep into/or out of the end zone as often when it gets cold. Then, we may see Hesters return abilities shine more once again.

How can some be worth even less AND even more underpaid.

He has already run one punt back this year. He almost ran a kickoff back, too. And he is a much better punt returner anyways. His value holds.

typo. I meant overpaid.

And he has undoubtedly been affected. His value does not hold. It has plummeted. Hopefully the weather helps.

Misleading... the Bears defense sucks ass this year so they are constantly getting the ball off of kickoffs instead of punts. If they started stopping somebody, they would have better field position.

Also, Devin Hester was not kickoff returner the last two seasons.

He started returning kicks again last year and he was the punt returner.

You're in denial man. They went from 1st to 30th. He's been majorly affected, even Devin himself has admitted this.

Two seasons in a row he returned no kicks for TD's. Last year, he returned three. So far this year, he has already returned one.

Daniel Manning was the primary kickoff returner. What has affected Hester in the past was this WR bullshit. What is affecting him this year is the Bears inability to stop the other team on their side of the field and punt the ball.

Id say agree to disagree but what you're saying is ridiculous. Were not talking punts. The defense has no control over kickoffs. They all come from the sams spot.

He returned 12 kicks last year and averaged 35.6 yds per return

He's returned 12 already this year and is averaging 23.4

You were talking about worth and field position.

1. Defense determines field position.
2. Hester barely returned kickoffs the last 3 years, so him returning them this year is a bonus. The lower return is because he is running the ball out of the endzone when he is 8 yards deep trying to make things happen. He almost ran one back already.
3. He is still the most dangerous punt returner in the league, as usual.

So in my eyes, his value is just as high as it was the the last three years. The new rule may limit kickoff returns, but punting the ball out of bounds would have the same effect on him. Bottom line, no one want to kick him the ball and that has a lot of value. If he could be traded for good value, they should do it.

.

So you agree with me!!!

He's been negatively affected by the rule.

He looked to have a hard time last night. You are right, his value is in the toilet. No one would want Hester on their team.

Just him being on the field yesterday resulted in a 17 yard punt

There was also another horribly punted ball that took a lucky bounce for Minne.

Is Hester's ankle really still a problem? Or, has he quietly been removed from the receiving corps?

To me, the offense looks much, much better with Bennett, Knox, and Williams out there. Possibly the Bears have figured that out too?
