Disagree. MLB players are good at fake reacting right away. I was at a game where Lance Berkman dropped to the ground like he'd been hit in the head and stayed down for like 3 minutes. Replays showed the ball missed him.

Yeah. A phony reaction cost Detroit in these playoffs when the batter sold getting hit so well it was called a dead ball and the runner was sent back to second. He ended up scoring later anyway, but the batter's histrionics aren't really what the umpire should be looking at. Either you saw it hit him or not.

Is Ron Washington making a mistake with his lineup? I realize Andrus is fast and why he's in front of their big hitters but even I was thinking the lineup could be improved and then I read this today by someone who supposedly knows baseball pretty well.

Nelson Cruz, coming off one of the best playoff series in baseball history, gets rewarded by moving up in the order … one spot, to sixth from seventh. Swapping spots with him is Mike Napoli, who was the best hitter in all of baseball in the second half of the season. Meanwhile, Elvis Andrus, who hit five homers all year (zero last year), bats second. Josh Hamilton, last year's MVP and one of the most dangerous hitters in the game, is homerless this postseason, taking weak swings due to a groin injury that's rendered his lower body nearly useless. It might make sense to slot him in a prime lineup spot when he's healthy. He's not healthy. And he's batting third.

It's more important to get your best nine players in the lineup than it is to slot them in the right order. But building an optimal lineup can still give a team a small advantage, and the playoffs are all about leveraging those small advantages. By batting Mike Napoli (.444 wOBA, best in MLB for hitters with 400 PA or more) five slots below Elvis Andrus (.323 wOBA), one of your worst hitters becomes more likely to bat once more in a game than your best hitter.

This is a good game. Who the hell thought the Cardinal starting pitcher would go through the Texas lineup the way he did. LaRussa only wanted to get 4 innings out of him.

Uncharacteristic lazy terrible play by Albert. Very costly.

Great win for the Rangers. Loved seeing Albert think he had a HR in the 8th and then his fuck up in the 9th, couldn't happen to a better guy.

Gutsy and huge. Bernstein's Chart shows you the amount of leverage in the plays at the end of the game. That always makes a great game. From about the 7th inning stretch on, you had some important, exciting ball.
