This was the perfect offseason to reshape the entire management of this team. There was a plethora of pinatas and GM quality executives with great credentials on the market who were looking to change their situations. There were several relatively young manager candidates who were experienced in coaching and well regarded for their baseball acumen. Instead we got the same old.

This organization has become incestuous from top to bottom. It is like a remote Appalachian clan with brothers, sisters aunts and uncles all living in close proximity and intermarrying. We've already seen the freak show offspring in KW and Ozzie and now a new baby was born to the family, little twelve toed one eyed Robin. All the while the father of this whole mess preaches to the family about the dangers of the outside world and prepares for an attack by the others.

It's time to go outside of this organization. Unfortunately, like the Bears, I have no hope for a shakeup to occur.

I feel that the Sox missed an opportunity that rarely presents itself.

I still don't get why people are so down on Robin Ventura. good dolphin has gone as far to say that even if Robin Ventura is great from day one that it's a bad hire. I understand if you are concerned because he didn't sit on a minor league bus for three years or get Jack McKeon his Werthers originals for a few years but to basically decide that it was a terrible hire before he even manages his first game is an overreaction. I predict he'll be about average, with some rookie mistakes, but that could happen with any manager who hasn't been the main guy. If he learns the proper time to steal then he'll have that over Ozzie.

Now we find out if Ozzie was really the problem, which is my guess, or if it was Kenny. If it is, then Robin and Kenny are both gone in a year or two.

Why would Jerry want to change the whole structure though?

He's fine with it how it is. You might have to start putting an Al Davis type clock on Weird Jerry

dolphin is thinking in a grander sense than just the manager.

Also, its a small time hire no matter what happens. dolphin doesnt like that.

dolphin is gettin upset!

Aggravated, I'd have no problem at all with Frank Thomas as the hitting coach. If Frank thinks he can help the awful swings of Adam "The Strikeout Machine" Dunn, Alex Rios and Gordon Beckham next year, I'm all for his hiring. I think it's safe to say broadcasting isn't in Thomas' future.

I don't think management is listening though.

Totally agree, GD

Sox did have a chance to change things up, but I would assume Uncle Jerry is happy status quo.

And for once.....ONCE.....it looks like the Cubs finally have done the right thing in moving this giant suckfest in the right direction.

So Jerry is the issue? The guy that spent more money than ever last year even with a less than capacity stadium? He's not the issue. I don't really know why he's worse than he was in 2005, besides keeping Kenny too long. He did get rid of Ozzie, and most of the other coaches, but for whatever reason he decided that Kenny could stay. It's clear who he blamed for the issues of the last few years.

I dont know, Im not gonna speak for him.

The impression I got what that he wanted a grand change that would mean Kenny and Ozzie both gone. New President, Gm and manager.

We'll find out this year if Kenny/Robin was a mistake but you can't say that he is just letting things stay the same.

If Theo Epstein's hiring today doesn't mean an elusive World Series title for the Chicago National League Ballclub, I don't know who's better suited.

Although it's not set in stone, I've read the name Mark Parent as the rumored new bench coach & Triple "A" Charlotte manager Joe McEwing as new third base coach. Hmmm...There's a seasoned veteran who has managed in the majors and would be better suited than Parent, currently a manager in the Phillies' minor league system as bench coach. I saw him the other night on MLB Network analyzing the World Series. Wouldn't Larry Bowa be better equipped to help Robin Ventura?

Just stop it. I've already had my argument with a goof who wants to argue for the sake of arguing today.

Ventura by his own admission, had never even expressed an interest in coaching. Up until 4 months ago he had been entirely out of baseball since his playing days.

So what did the Sox base this hire upon? It appears it was based on some ambiguous mixture of friendship, general intelligence and calm demeanor. Millions of people in this country fit those job requirements but he was THE ONLY candidate the Sox interviewed. I would expect an executive search to be more thorough. That is a failed job search. He may succeed but it will not be based on anything other than dumb luck. His success would be similar to 1,000 monkeys on 1,000 typewriters eventually producing Hamlet. You want me to bite my tounge in the face of this ineptitude. No.

I just don't know what the issue is with the Sox. They kept Kenny, and took a chance on a manager. They made changes and just not as much as others had hoped.

I would have supported Kenny being gone too but I am willing to give the actions they did the benefit of the doubt. As I said, dolphin is on record as saying that even if Ventura turns out to be a great manager that it's still a bad hire. This is the kind of overreaction I am talking about.

If the Sox had hired Terry Francona or Cito Gaston I still wouldn't be feeling that much different. An owner who has been a really good owner for decades made some determinations and I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

No its not.

Are you guys not reading the appalacian part and the sentence about warning the dangers of the outside world?

Whatever it was great.

dolphin, I wasnt arguing to argue. You listed Epstein's FA signings as a detriment and I questioned you who was better than you proceded to ignore that all day and focus on John Lackey, who I agreed was a bad signing.

You are quite the hypocrite but the Appalacian thing makes up for it.

Zen mode stopped for one second.

How is it hypocritical?

Why would I have to name someone better to analyze Epstein? I never proferred a comparison study.

Zen mode restored.

You made a comment. I asked you how it was relevant and how it compared to the rest of the league.

The ignorance was the guy who failed, all day, to provide an answer as to why its relevant and not just par for the course with any big spending team, to have a few bad signings.

Then you have to better define "Horrible" deals. Because in the real world where GMs are compred to their counterparts they are not "Horrible"
