For those who like to accuse my of Googling shit, I'll admit I didn't know who Goslin hit the homer off and had to look it up. But historically that was considered a pretty big home run.

I found it interesting that a few years back someone had a poll of the most famous homers ever and either Carter's walk-off or McGwire's 62nd was the winner. I saw both of those things as they happened, but as a baseball fan I have to say, that even though they occurred before I was born, the two biggest homers ever have to be Thomson's "Shot Heard 'Round The World" and Mazeroski's series winner against a vastly superior Yankee team in 1960.

Two things...One, I wonder if ESPN Radio's Dan Shulman has much of a voice left after the incredible finish of last night's Game 6 of this year's World Series. Two, as much as people can't stand FOX Sports' golden voice Joe Buck, he paid tribute to his legendary father when he called David Freese's walk-off homer to set up tonight's Game 7. It was a call for the ages.

Much like when the late Jack said "And we'll see you tomorrow night!" after describing the late Kirby Puckett's walk-off homer for the Twins to beat the Braves in Game 6 in the 1991 World Series on CBS, Joe said the exact same thing on FOX when Freese won that game for the Cardinals to beat the Rangers in dramatic fashion.

That phrase appeared on the JumboTron at Busch Stadium in St. Louis right after the game.

Yeah, maybe the Gibson homer did lead the poll. But for a good Cub memory, how about "The Homer in the Gloamin'"?

When I owned a building in Skokie and ran my business out of there I rented out an office to an old guy who had a little advertising company. He used to actually physically cut and paste his ads together using mucilage. This was in the late 90s. One day he was rushing to get an ad done and he was all anxious and I asked him if he needed a hand. I knocked out the ad in about ten minutes using MS Publisher. He got this crestfallen look and said, "Thanks, but I think I'll do it my way." I could tell it just hit him that the world had passed him by. I felt bad and wished I hadn't tried to help him. I'm starting to occasionally feel the way he must have now myself.

Anyway, the guy is dead now, but he once told me a good story about "The Homer in the Gloamin'. The game in which Hartnett hit it occurred on Yom Kippur in '38. My guy was a young Jewish man in his late teens at the time. He lived in Austin. He and a buddy were hardcore Cub fans and they desperately wanted to go to the game. Yom Kippur didn't begin until sundown so they figured they would be home no problem. Also, the buddy's dad owned a bagel shop and it was closed all day for the holiday so they could take the delivery truck to the game. Of course, the game went late the way it did and the refused to leave until it was over. He said they had a hell of a time sneaking the truck which was emblazoned with the name of the bagel shop back through the heavily Jewish neighborhood after sunset on Yom Kippur. Go, Cubs, go!

Game 6, while entertaining, was not a well-pitched game. The Rangers blew the game twice. They probably should have intentionally walked Pujols in the 9th. The Cardinals have no right to have home field advantage. If not for a monumental collapse they don't make the playoffs. The problem with the pitching was that the pitchers were throwing strikes and then they were grooving the pitches right down the middle. And how does a guy hit a double when you're in a no doubles defense?
