Finally made it to this place. Been meaning to a couple of times and ended up at other places.

First, the Ribs. Rub is dry, Ribs get reheated on the grille is what they taste like, kinda tough, and 2 bad sauces. A lil different, but not close ot the hype they created.

Brisket Tips- Not done correct. Not good. thanks

Pulled pork, pretty good no issues.

Shrimp, oK

Sausage links at $8 per link, a total ripoff for Sausage they bought.

Fries, not good too hard.

I see this place going away within the year as the dedication is not there for the BBQ and they want to have a bar. (DJ, lights, music, etc) Then the bar will die and the place goes away. Trendy as trendy can be.

Best thing there, Kristin, our bar whench, 2nd night, great Tank top, fabulous tatas!

That's pretty much the same review that Time Out Chicago gave them. I'm surprised it sucks so much with BBQ Man Gary Wiviott as their consultant.

Probably a good thing you posted this here and not on that $40K board, because you would get deleted there.

But pretty much what you said is what I've heard from my people. They just don't have it going on.

If you want to put out good BBQ, then don't go with a pellet smoker. Just a word of advice from an amateur.

Gary Wiviott seems to be a guy that might have liked BBQ for years but his best BBQ calls kinda suck!

It's like they make the half effort and outside of that, LETS DO SHOTS!

Country Music, Dining, etc until 9 PM, then lights go down and "BOOM BOOM BOOM"

Just put up a post at LTH. Nothing terrible, but nothing good either.

Burnt ends hugely disappointed!

I am not a brisket expert, as I really dont love the stuff and in these parts, we dont have much of it, so it say one is really, might not be saying much.

Additionally, I know they are called BURNT ENDS not BRISKET TIPS as they called them.

They are called Burnt ends because they are cooked twice and are suppossed to be excellent and usually limited in supply.

I expect them to be great as I did order the burnt ends burger from BRAND BBQ MARKET on Armitage last year and it was amazing! I mean top of the heap burger, but one of the best things ever, even though the rest of the food was average at best.

The sausage was really a bummer. At least find a butcher and create your own recipe? Maybe they did, but they sure tasted like Johnsonvilles to me.

You're not suggesting that it was GWiv's idea to use a pellet smoker, though, are you?

My understanding is that Barn and Co. purchased that equipment prior to GWiv's hire, and he is thus trying to make the best out of a less than ideal setup for barbecue.

Given GWiv's record of publicly criticizing local barbecue establishments that do not use the Chicago-style aquarium smoker, I recognize the irony in the fact that he is now running the "pit" at a place that fails to employ this equipment.

But I also think castigating the guy for such a situation is more than a little petty. The guy apparently needed a job. He took what he could get. And he's committed to improving the product at his restaurant. Hopefully, he will be making better use of his Yoder smokers in the future.

On another note, I heard that GWiv almost drove LTH into insolvency through "financial mismanagement." Anyone have the story on that?

By the way, I have been a regular poster on LTH since its inception. Prior to that, I also posted frequently on chowhound.com, the genesis site for LTH. While I have always enjoyed reading both boards, I think they are populated by a significant number of douchebags with questionable palates. GWiv has never struck me as such an individual. But I have only met him a couple of times, and that was more than five years ago.

1. What name do you post under at LTH?

2. I don't know what 'insolvency' means, but I do know this, from the discussions on the site: GWiv was having some financial trouble and borrowed some money from another of the "founding members" of LTH. Over time their relationship fell apart, he did not repay the money that he owed the other person - so that person filed suit against GWiv. Somehow through that suit, he took "ownership" of LTH and put it up for sale to the highest bidder in an effort to get his money back. This caused panic amongst the stuffy/douchebags on that board ("What if the new owners allow people to have avatars???!! The horror!!!")

Instead, 3 other "original"/main members pooled their money and put together the winning bid and all was right in the world of Chicago food snobs. The winning bid was.............? Any guesses?

And you're right, GWiv is a nice guy - met him and his wife at Toons a couple times. Dude can put away some food though - it's impressive.

Don't remember the winning bid now, but the receiver was taking bids starting at $40K. That was from a direct phone call.

I actually laughed on the phone when the Lawyer told me that.

So, did they really pay $40K? I guess I can find out.

Yep. $40k.

I figure you could get half that just from the traffic provided by RPB, Peeps, and Boyd.

Went here for lunch today.

The ribs are not that good at all. Really, really dry. Almost "tough"? But I actually like a couple of the sauces - the Carolina Mustard one is good for sure. I was pissed that I ordered a full slab - should have stuck with a half and gotten a link or something.
Wife ordered the brisket - I honestly think it is some of the best brisket I have ever had. Really flavorful, really tender.

Fries were ok - they're fries. Got fried pickles as an app. Little different version than I've had before, they were good enough.
