Free Agency Period Will Begin October 30th

By Mike Axisa [October 28 at 10:48pm CST]

Now that they're done playing on the field, all of the off-the-field fun starts.

Major League Baseball and the Players' Association announced earlier this evening that the start of the free agency period will be delayed by 24 hours, and will officially begin at 12:01am ET on Sunday, October 30th. All team/player/mutual option decisions are due by 11:59pm ET on Monday, October 31st. Free agents will be able to sign contracts with new teams starting at 12:01am ET on Thursday, November 3rd. The MLBPA will release a full list of free agents on Sunday.

Here are some other important offseason dates, courtesy of MLB.com...

•Nov. 23rd: Last day for clubs to offer salary arbitration to Type-A or B free agents in order to receive draft pick compensation. Deadline is midnight ET.
•Dec. 7th: Last day for free agents to accept arbitration, if offered. Deadline is midnight ET.
•Dec. 5th-8th: Winter meetings in Dallas.
•Dec. 12th: Deadline to tender contracts to players with less than six years of service time. Our Arbitration Eligibles series will give you an idea of which players are non-tender candidates.

Wait, we might have to wait until Monday. Tomorrow is the Sabbath for the Messiah.

Awesome. Can't wait for Theo and his crew to get to work.

Cubs should offer Pujols 30 million for one season to see if he bites.

Fuck the bullshit... there's only one important question this whole offseason that i fear might end up extending all the way to training camp: where is vlad going to end up?

I might actually pray that the dude can get another crack in Baltimore or somewhere and possibly get off to a quick start and have a power surge and maybe crack something like ~20-25HR this year, which would put him circa ~470... cuz man if he gets to 500 he's in like flynn.... as it stands i think he's like 2-3 homeruns short of 450, and a handful of RBIs short of 1500. 450/1500 are nice round #s to attain... 500/1650 sounds a hell of a lot rounder to me... and if he could hit .300+, cuz i don't wanna see that career batting average dip too far below the ~.318 it's at right now.... the guy was a perennial/career .320+ hitter, however NATURAL AGING coupled with a surprise year added to his age thanks to shoddy dominican birth certificates = ruh oh... stay above .315+ for the career at least man, please.

otherwise, yeah, some people are gonna go here or there and get paid, and odds are that barring creepshow rickets going all OMFG WOOHOO I'M GONNA OWN THIS TOWN and begging dad to co-sign as he maxes out his credit card to throw big $$$ at pujols, prince, CJ, CC, or someone of that ilk..... nobody's really gonna sign here in chicago as both franchises "rebuild" without saying that word (kenny has staked his claim to the term "holding pattern" to describe the ~2-3 years of sucktitude he sees on the horizon). i wonder if the white sox will manage to draw less than 2mil next year?? .....BOOK IT! </jim durham>

Vlad seems like the perfect guy to DH for one of the big money teams that can afford to let him get 400 AB cause they have a lefty DH option too.

There is nothing left of Vlad's knees. His lower body is shot.

Yeah but it seems like he's able to hit well for about 67% of a season. Thats why I suggest a Big money quasi DH platoon.

Red Sox, Yankees, Maybe even the Tigers
