So no one can review the console version because EA refuses to put it in anyone's hands before the day one patch is launched?

Between this and the inevitable server issues that have plagued every previous BF game I've played, I absolutely cannot justify a day one purchase of this.

Will let the dust settle a bit and see where we are in a few weeks.

I always do day one purchases now... can't beat the $0.99 shipping for release date delivery and no sales tax. And for a title you might sell, you'll get a better price for it if you are ready to sell it earlier.

So I took a deep breath and put BF3 game in last night. It was actually a good time. It's a good game, but plays more like Bad Company game than a true BF game, in my opinion. And frankly I think that is a good thing. It mostly has to do with the number of players in a room which I believe is limited to 24. DICE missed an opportunity again to provide maps with more destructible environments. I think I know why... because it would slow down frame rates to have that much destruction on a map.

Graphics are decent, but when all the screenshots were from high spec PC's, I can't help but be a bit disappointed in the console version. The game certainly plays similar to BC games with Rush and Conquest modes. The maps are a bit bigger, but not egregiously so. If you liked Bad Company games, you'll like this. But if not, stick to the new MW3 if you can only buy one game.

As everyone is saying, the sound is absolutely amazing. Matchmaking is a bit convoluted. I still don't understand why every single MP game doesn't just simply utilize the best lobby system out there... Halo. I'm leveling up slowly which is a little painful when other players have leveled up guns and perks. My recommendation is to be a Medic and follow your squad. Or on a map with lots of vehicles, be an Engineer and fix broken tanks. I got the MVP achievement using this strategy. You can get a lot of XP this way.

I tried to fly a jet. I have no frickin clue how to do it. And I'm always amazed at the guys who can effectively pilot one of the helicopters. They are a true asset if you can fly them. DICE is smart to make them so difficult to control because they can be a game changer.

There were a couple maps on BFBC2 like Oasis that had densely packed buildings which offered a great opportunity to Assault guys (with grenade launchers), Snipers (with C4), and Engineers (with launchers) to create new pathways to the objectives. In BF3, many of the destructible environments are a spread out building or a brick wall. Destructive environments essentially just help to negate cover rather than create new pathways to an objective. It's kind of hard to explain, but if you've played a lot of BC, then this is a great strategy on both Rush and certain Conquest maps.

Agreed.... just not laid out in such a way that really makes it possible to create stealthy new pathways like you can on that Oasis map. It really helps even the playing field between a tank and a guy on foot. It also brings a whole new strategy to a Rush map.

I'm guessing that BF on the PC with the gigantic maps and twice as many players it's not really practical to pack buildings densely together. But for smaller densely packed maps, it is a real treat to be able to blow a hole through a wall and slip into a window in the next building to flank an enemy target.

I mentioned previously how I never understood why people didn't just copy Halo's lobby system. However, BF3 did a great job of improving matchmaking over what we experienced in BC2. You can actually browse servers, see who's online, and check ping.

Overall, I'm liking this game the more and more I play it. Servers have been largely stable other than periods of lag. I have rarely been kicked from a game. My biggest gripe is the matchmaking for groups. As a group of 4, my buddies and I struggled to enter a game without being split up, often on opposing teams. It usually takes a while to switch teams as new people are added. And once on the same team, it's difficult to all get yourselves on the same squad. It seemed like this was not a problem in BC2.

I'm definitely enjoying it... I'm just talking about what could make the game a bit better.

I think it's kind of a refreshing score system. It's pretty rare when I have a positive kill/death ratio, but when I do I'm usually one of the lowest scoring players in the match. More often than not, it's my support functions that garner me the most points. It's nice that the main objective ain't just killing unless your playing TDM. I'm usually a Conquest player, but I play some Rush too.

And frankly I'm loving that. I'm levelling up much faster than my friends... but admittedly they might be just biding their time until MW3. I will be sad when I lose them to MW3... or as I like to call it, the "MW2 $60 map pack".

FWIW, BF3 was not that great of a leap from BF:BC2. Frostbite 2 ain't much different from Frostbite 1.5 except for the lighting affects, in my opinion. Now admittedly, this is just from the console version. I fully realize that I'm playing a dummed down version of the PC game. I get that. But it's not like BF3 really has anything that groundbreaking from BF:BC2... except jets.

I've heard nothing about the maps, nor seen any videos and I can say without a doubt that I will enjoy the hell out of that game, and those maps.

Big list of fixes... gonna make those guys dropping into the tank in squad death match a little less inclined to do so! Should be fun! Any of you playing BF3 on the 360, shoot me an invite and we'll frag.

I still don't get it. Why don't you just tell me what you mean instead of posting cryptic Internet memes?

"Orly?" is an internet meme. And for your information, you have to be pretty narcissistic to assume everyone reads your post before they post. If you covered it already, fine. I didn't know that. No need to get all "messageboard anal" about me reposting something I found interesting. How was I supposed to know that you were referencing that when all you post is "Orly?"

To be honest, with the attitude you often display in them, I ignore pretty much all your video game posts.

It was cryptic only in the sense that I had no idea why you wrote it.

Let's move along... I agree with you, it's a silly subject. A classic case of sarcasm not being understood. We need a sarcastic font.

All good?
