This year marks Arkush’s 31st year as the publisher and editor of Pro Football Weekly. Prior to his PFW days, he spent a year and a half in Carbondale, Illinois at Southern Illinois University before transferring to the University of Michigan, where he majored in English and physical education. In addition to his first love, PFW, career-wise that is, he worked as color commentator on the Chicago Bears Radio Network from 1987-2004. Arkush also created and has co-hosted the syndicated Pro Football Weekly Radio and TV shows for a number of years. PFW Radio was born in 1987 and airs in 137 markets around the country, 52 weeks a year. The PFW TV show launched in 1988 and now airs in about 40 million homes on Comcast Sports Net from August through the Super Bowl. Arkush launched the Pro Football Weekly Web site in 1998, and since 2006, he has served as an analyst and sideline reporter on the Westwood One National radio broadcasts of NFL games. Arkush also has been lucky enough to cover the last 31 Super Bowls. By far his greatest accomplishments are the 28 years he somehow has convinced his wife, Candace, to tolerate him and that their boys Billy, 30, and Arthur, 26, and their baby girl Taylor, 24, still like to hang with them every once in a while.

William is following in his dad's footsteps as a football player at Deerfield High. "Billy," as he is known, was the leading scorer and rusher on the Warriors' freshman B team last season. Hub had played at Deerfield from '67 to '71 as an offensive guard and inside line backer.

"I feel pretty good about going to the same high school my Dad did," Billy said. "Some of the teachers and coaches (I have) were here when my dad was."

As for his father's career, "I think his work is pretty cool. I'd like to do that too. . . . It's great to take a sport he liked so much and turn it into a job."

Arkush played college ball at Triton in River Grove before attending both Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He majored in English and physical education, two fields that have helped him in his professional career.

As for the perks of having a father in the business, "the kids occasionally go to a Bears game," Arkush said. "My wife is not a rabid fan, but the whole family would rather see the Bears win than lose."

But whether the team is victorious or not, it seems that Hub comes out a winner either way.

Back in the day Deerfield actually had a pretty good program. Produced some huge Olines for some reason. I am actually friends with a couple of those guys now and they are monsters. 6'6" and 6'8" guys both well over 300 and if they tried could probably have played in the NFL, instead they are Lawyers. They are both very athletic.

All that said, Hub played "Freshman B?" and is still like 5'8"?????????????????

If you played Freshman B, you sucked! and there are always stories of guys who played B squads or practice squads that got better and grew, but this is not one of them. Deerfield did not have that any students to have so much talent that a "B" Squad was needed.

Oh, but now he played Baseball and basketball in high school? lol Does Intramural HS sports count as "playing ball"?

Bucky Chris now just needs to confirm that Triton College had a football program in the 70's or early 80's, as they dont anymore.

Yeah, I think Paul Adams was the coach. They always had college-sized linemen in my time. Evanston would have quick but relatively small brothers on the defensive line and Deerfield would just steamroll them with guys that looked like they played for the Redskins.

I might even try to have The Otter, show up on Friday. 6'8" 340ish now. Just too nice of a guy to make it to the next level, but played a ton of hoops with the guy and I am sure his athelticism could have easily translated to the OL.

College roomie played at Deerfiled Freshman and Sophomore year. Then moved to the city and attended Latin.

When I met him college he claimed he was a great hoops player, as he was on the team at Wabash College down in Indiana.

Told me that if he went could platy Div III ball, for sure he would have started in high school at New Trier.

I had seen him play a couple of times at Alumni hall and maybe I missed the highlight film but he didnt seem like anything special? But once again the "I played Div III in college status was being tossed around"

I told him I thought he wouldn't even make the team at New Trier.

So we played best of 3 games, 1 on 1, for the month of rent. Each game up to 10. We actually ended up playing 3 games, in which he scored a total of 1 point in those three games! as I then explained to him, I sat at the bench and rarely played and I just kicked his ass. I told him I would take back my statement and say, he would not have made the first cut and could find 100 guys that went to HS with me that are better then him.

KC Johnson, another guy who played 'college ball" at Beloit College. From what I remember he got less time than I did at Evanston Township HS.

However, if these guys went to these schools to try and lend some credence to their future plans of being "Basketball" or "Football" experts, I give them some credit, as it looks good on paper.
