It could also be argued that Vick's triumphs on the field are glorified beyond what they should be compared to Big Ben's also.

So is that because Rothlisberger is white?

Are you implying that Dustin Rhodes is racist?

Yes. Here's the thing: I think in many cases, it's subconscious racism. I don't think he's actively being racist, but again, I believe that he (and others) wouldn't be as upset if the dogfighter in this case were a white player.

I dunno man. If Vick was a white man who actually served time for dogfighting, I think those against that sort of thing would still act the same way. I could be wrong on that though.

Thanks for your honest reply.

Again, I think it's hard to say because of the love affair so many Americans have with their dogs and dogs in general.

To OKC's point, just look at the different ways Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire are viewed. They were both rude, surly jag-offs who set records by juicing up. One is seen as a villian of almost Hitleresque proportions and the other is seen as a guy who made a mistake. Ask Bob Costas.

Bonds has been mostly ignored by people since he retired. Bonds was bigger news because he was still playing. McGuire, just like Sosa, were pretty much meaningless by the time the actual proof came around.

They both broke a HUGE record at the time. But I'd disagree that with the premise that McGwire was as surly during his pursuit of that record as Bonds was. In fact, McWire was disgustingly "cuddly" during that entire time. Bonds........wasn't. Also - neither is viewed now as a hero - they are both different types of steroid-using villains in the eyes of baseball.

You were clear and I agree that race always makes a difference in America. But I just think in this particular case, the overriding factor in the continuing hatred of Vick is the love people have for dogs.

Seldom wrong and right again JORR.

Honestly when people start talking about dogs like theyre humans I cringe. I find it to be pretty crazy.

True. I also seem to remember McGwire and Sosa hugging it out at home plate after the former broke said record.

That's what I'm saying. He wasn't being a surly jag-off during his record breaking performance like Bonds was.

And I thought Bonds daughter was a lot cuter, nicer, and camera-friendly than Mac's son. So there's that.

I don't think that's right. McGwire was notoriously rude and surly. It was Sosa who did most of the talking and mugging for the cameras while McGwire sat there uncomfortably. Once in a while Sammy's exuberance would get him to crack a little smile.

Anyway, it seems to me there's much more willingness to "forgive" McGwire and I have to believe the respective races of the two guys plays a part in that. Even though the closet racist meatball says, "I'm sticking up for Hank Aaron. He's black!" That same guy was hoping for the Braves team plane to crash so a brother wouldn't break the record of the great Babe Ruth.

Bonds is vilified more but he is a LEGENDARY jagoff. Hard to tell off something like that.

How bout this one class: What if Brett Favre was black? With the sexting and everything?

I guess we'll have to agree t disagree on that. I don't know of anyone this side of St. Louis that actually has a positive opinion of McGwire.

I'd say that's really not a huge deal either way. He's just really, really bad at picking up women. And he's dumb enough to leave messages while doing it.

Big Ben's and Vick's transgressions are way worse.

Does anybody else agree that Vick gets more attention - both positive and negative - than he really should? I don;t think race plays a huge role in that. He's regarded as a elite-level QB in many ways - has been since college. And he's won.................well, he won that one playoff game in GB a few years back.

Depends on if the black quarterback had texted a white woman. If so, then the outrage would've been far more severe. It may not be 1955, but the interracial thing is still taboo. It's far more accepted for a black woman to date a white man, but not the other way around.

But if the texting subject had been a black woman, I think the outrage would've actually been less severe. Black-on-black conflict is not outrageous to the majority in this country. And plus, the stereotype about brothers is that we're a bunch of oversexed savages who can't control our primal instincts.

I respectfully disagree with OKC's beliefs.

I also think it is far more culturally acceptable for black men to date/marry white women than vice versa. It sure as heck seems a lot more common.

I think Favre was seen as a dirty old man and people just kinda laugh it off.

I think if that was Donavan McNabb he'd be labeled more like a predator.

But I dont know, none of us do.

This.

At least this holds true in my family. Aunt married a black Marine. He's a bad sumbitch, too. Good guy though.

I would agree that it is more common to see the black guy/white girl combination. However, black women don't face as much backlash for it as black men do, especially in the black community. Here's how it breaks down:

Black woman dating a white man = A woman who has aspirations and goals in life.

Black man dating a white woman = An Uncle Tom who fails to appreciate the beauty of women of color.

I don't necessarily agree with either of those, but I'm just explaining the lens through which certain segments of society tends to view these things.

Admittedly, this may be the reason for our difference on this matter. Tough for me to see it from that perspective and wasn't doing so when posting my response.

Ben has gotten his team to 3 SB's and won two of them. I'm guessing Vick gets an insane amount of press/praise if he pulls this off.

Dustin has got to be one of the absolutely worst "from behind the scenes --> in front of the mic" Score guys I have ever heard. His screechy, "I'm gonna argue the other side just because" approach is just awful. Outside of having pictures of mgt, no idea why they would trot him out more than once.

I highly doubt even he believes some of the stuff that he spouts off on air. It is painfully obvious that he just wants a reaction.

His meatball-anger-inducing "takes" don't anger me (they are, as has been said, meant soley to elicit a reaction...SHOCK JOCK!!), his whole persona angers me. The fact that he gets any mic time angers me. What a waste. People say that the morning show can't get any worse............well, you were dead wrong.

I heard a bit of his Urlacher trash this am, but the part that killed me was that they (assuming HIM) cut up a few pieces of audio, from just an hour or two earlier, where he was saying that the Cubs should do something to send a message to the other side of town (or it might have been vice versa)...Mulligan calmly told him that stuff doesn't matter to them, to which the dumbass replied "it should.....it should". Ugh. They actually played this as some sort of real time "listen to what YOU missed!!!" package. Incredible. "UNBELIEVABLE" you might even say.

I cannot imagine that anyone is going to take him creating anger as some sort of sign that he has "it"....well, wait, this is the station that thinks it good form to cram Larry up our collective giddy arses, so all bets are off. This idiot Rhodes is like a modern day version of a stupid Mike North.

There are some truths in his attack on Urlacher but since coming back from injury a few years ago,he has played very well.

Taking "some truths" and blowing them into a giant "listen he's a good player BUT HE AIN'T IN MY HOF" argument is just LCD radio for me. Is anyone really interested in that? I mean, yah, it got some people to text HOW ANGRY THEY ARE at him for such comments, but is that entertaining?

The guy has zero credibility, that's the problem. He comes out and takes "the other side" in an argument with NOTHING to back him up. If Troy Aikman decides to "go there" and talk about whether Urlacher is in "his HOF", ok. Hell, I'd even listen to Bryant Gumble explain to me how inferior of a player Urlacher would be considered if he were black, and not the bald-headed white hope. Not Rhodes. Not now. Not ever. No thanks.

Keep it.
